Fuel Economy

Fuel Economy
I have had my G for 2 weeks. I bought it with 500 mi (demo). it has a little over 1200 miles now. So the car is almost broke in, but i am still experiencing poor fuel economy. I thought our feul capacity is 20 gallons. Then why is my tank full @ 16 gallons? I have set the trip meter several times and I average about 280 miles on a full tank. What's goin on here? Any input.

Re: Fuel Economy
im closing in on 5000 miles on my car and I still have very shitty fuel economy. When my car says empty and i goto fill i never get more than 15gallons. Mayb ei dont let it run down as long as other people but i fill up as soon as the light turns on. Even worse, i get about 240 miles on a tank.

Re: Fuel Economy
Fuel economy will improve with time and miles, but it's definitely not the G's best trait.
As far as gallons in the tank, these are 20 US gallon tanks, but our gauges read very optimisticly, hence when it reads about empty, it still has 4 gallons.
I personally have driven 60 miles after my gauge reads empty.

Re: Fuel Economy
My coupe 6MT is at 8500 miles now and last week I saw 25.5 mpg with a 50/50 hwy-city mix. That was calculated manually. The NAV read 26.5.
NOTE: I will admit, with the rising cost of fuel, I've limited the high rpm runs lately.

Re: Fuel Economy
Just got back from the Portland CART race travelling at or slightly above the 70mph limit and went 425mi on the tank. Over 25mpg with 24k miles on the car. 6-spd coupe, usually I get around 19-20 in every day driving. It has been getting better milage lately, started off at about 17.5 mpg when new.

Re: Fuel Economy
actually the manual says 20. ive checked other sources such as edmunds, kbb, etc. they all said 20 gal. i just got my G and it has 1200 miles on it. for the most part i drive easy (under 2.5k rpm), but sometimes i feel the need to drive like an a$$hole. I dont think having a little fun with your car will hurt it that much during the break in period. well at least i hope so. any ways my fuel economy is pissing me off. especially with these crazy vegas gas prices. well actually they are slowing going down, but premium is still at LEAST $2.30/gal. I filled it up like 2 days ago. It costed me $39!!!! I was about to faint next to the pump.

Re: Fuel Economy
If you want 35+mpg, buy a four bangin' economy car. Sheesh.
I get about 22-23mpg doing about 75% highway driving. The mileage is noticeably better than my 6 cylinder Mustang which had very little power in comparison.
If you want to talk about crappy gas mileage / tank size, my first car was a 79 Ford Mustang Hatchback V8 (5.0). It got about 9mpg and had a 12 gallon tank. I went from gas station to gas station. Factoring in inflation in 1991 it was more expensive to drive even with today's gas prices. I have zero complaints about my 400-mile-per-tank G.
