G35 tailight question (and more)

First post on this forum. I currently drive a 98 Pontiac Grand Prix. It's modded pretty heavily, and i love the car. BUT... i've always been in love with these cars (g35's) and i'm going to buy one soon.

My question is.... I've been looking at the new ones (06's) and they seem to have different tail lights. The 04's have flat tailights that i light very much. I like subtle body lines in cars. The newer ones seem to have bubbles around the lights. What are the differences in these lights? Do they have different ammounts of LED's? Or different sections for turn / stop? And can you put the old ones in the new cars?

I'm not sure if the body changed on these, so i don't know if that would work.

I'm new here, so go easy on me if this is a stupid question. If this forum is anything like the grand prix forums, i'm sure there are people on here that know every inch of a g35 and can help me out with ease. I'll have to search around for some recommendations on what to look for while buying. I only want a manual coupe, and i've heard that the 04's and 05's had bad interiors that made a lot of noise (not a huge issue for me) but still i'd like to try and look for an 06 that i can get for 18k or so.

Thanks for helping me out guys!

The lights are all interchangeable, the only difference as far as I know are the "bubbles" and the 06 have a button to pop the trunk. The JDM ones have yellow turn signals also but the US ones don't.

yuck yellow stuff

awsome, that's cool, I can swap out tails then if i find an 06+ i like

I'm gonna tint them black anyways, but i don't care for the bubbles

thanks for your help

Instead of starting another thread,, i'm searching this anyways.. Mind if i ask another ?

was there ever really a special edition of the g in america called the skyline? I know a lot of people seem to just put on the badges, as the jdm's are called skyline anyways. But i saw one on ebay about a year ago that said skyline on the back, and on the ebay listing and it was supercharged (it was a roots blower, not some bolt on centrifugal one) so i was curious

^^the infiniti g35 is essentially the american version of the nissan skyline, this is the only thing about it, nothing special but some people like to change out their emblems and put nissan skyline on the back, its mostly for feeling better purposes, but its like an acura, if u go to japan u wont get an acura ull get a honda, same as the infiniti g35, it will be a nissan skyline 350gt etc

that's what i assumed. And i know they are called different things over in china land. I just wasn't sure if there was a limited run of actual american skylines, this guys motor looked factory with that supercharger, and i didn't think the G's ever came blown.

I've got a lot of searching to do, i want to get a G, put black wheels, debadge it, tint the tails and windows. Put some borla's on it. And then mod the motor a bit. Not sure if you guys put cam's in these, or just tune them. I'm not gonna do a turbo. Maybe if there is a cheap supercharged solution (maybe weld up a custom LIM for a ford lightning supercharger or something?). I've messed with all that stuff before on my grand prix so i'm not sure what will go on with this car. I just want something that has enough horse to kick the tail around a bit on the streets

What do you guys do for differentials? Are there differences between the years?

well im sure he just put the supercharger, its not as if its a special editon dont worry

for performance parts if u want to go NA it will cost a lot more money (obviously) and will take more time, FI will be the best bet if you want some quick results, but with NA on these cars the gains are very small unless you go in depth with it

yeah i've seen that first hand. Had a 99 gt (na) grand prix (hence the name) that was slow nomatter what you did to it

Then i sold that and got my 98 gtp (sc) that took almost nothing to get into 13's worth of power, it's doing a lot better than that now. And that was much easier than a gt.

Are there a lot of SC options out there for the G? or do most people run turbo's? I'm more of a supercharged kinda guy myself. But i'm willing to do custom stuff if i need to. Although i'd hate to screw up a bunch of PCV and emisions stuff. Sucks to change platforms, i know every inch of a grand prix, and i know NOTHING about G's

Vortech and stillen are your two main companies for the G. There are some others but those two are the most popular. Check the FI forum for more details and see peoples opinions.

ok, thanks guys. I'll have to browse around, and abuse the search button for a bit. I might just make my own FI setup if there aren't cheap decent options out there.

well, i've just bought my G for like a month. It's an 05 Coupe model. Everything is fine, no noise coming from the interior as you said. So don't worry about that. I also like the tail lights of 03-05 models. And one more thing, 03 and 04 models have less interior space than 05-07 models. I guess those are two main differences.

You also forgot that the 06 comes with projectors in the headlights.

06 ftw.

i hadn't even realized the older ones didn't have projectors. That seems odd to me because i thought all the Z's had projectors?

But the big spoiler stopped in 05 right? So i have to either

a. get an 06 and get a different spoiler and tail lights

or

b. Get an 05 and get different headlights and worry about the dash sounds

decisions decisions
