Re: Did U Know Ur Lights Do This...
Haha.. Also brings up the point that if you flip through the damn AUTO function your Xenon's flash too.
Not to mention all the bulbs are pretty ugly in the car. The high beams / fogs, clearance strip are all a hideous yellow. The xenon hids are decent at best.

Re: Did U Know Ur Lights Do This...
Honestly, at first I was under the impression that if it was dark outside (determined by the light sensor), even if your lights are off, if you pull the stalk towards you to "flash" the high-beams, the Xenons flashed as well....that makes a little bit of sense. But then I got pissed the other day when I pointed the car one of the house windows (for the reflection) and did the "flash" only to see the Xenons flashing as well!!
I've been dealing with Infiniti Consumer Affairs lately to get my stupid chattery wiper fixed...next time I get on the phone with them, I will also ask why the lights are setup this way.
Dragon, the yellow turn signals and clearance strip actually work for me. My Coupe is Black and my NJ license plate is yellow, as are the clearance strips and the turn signals, and the Brembos are somewhat yellow. Gives my car a little black and yellow theme to it... =P

Re: Did U Know Ur Lights Do This...
i hope you all know that our hid system is designed and supposed to out last the life of our car. i dont know why you are making such a big deal about " flashing " if you want to preserve everything cool about the, why even drive it? why driving it you are putting wear and tear on the motor which in turn decreases the performance overtime.
the point is... you don;t need to wory about the bulbs going bad.. unless you do something retarded like mess with the system or housings

Re: Did U Know Ur Lights Do This...
wickedik, you obviously know absolutely nothing about Xenon headlights so keep your poor advice to yourself, kthxbye.
Anyways, just to conclude the topic and put everybody's minds at ease (since I started this whole thing): Infiniti Consumer Affairs called me back today about my chattery wiper problem...gonna get it fixed as soon as I can take it to the dealership.
But as for the headlights flashing with the high-beams when the headlights are off, I asked the rep about this. He said that he has spoken with the engineers about it and the bulbs suffer no performance or lifespan loss when they "flash" like that. He could not speak for Xenon headlights in general, but as for all G35 models, he clearly said it causes no negative effects to the Xenon bulbs when they flash on and off.
Take the advice as you want, I'm just relaying what the representative told me.
Thanks,

Re: Did U Know Ur Lights Do This...
The average Xenon bulb lasts for around 3,000 hours of usage. Of course, its performance decreases with time. After 2,000 hours of usage, the bulbs only emit 70% illuminataion (measured in lumens) of its original brightness.
Typically, turning your Xenons on and off without giving them proper time to cool down shortens the lifespan of the bulbs. Now WHY the rep told me that "flashing" the bulbs has absolutely no effect on the lifespan of the bulb (speaking only for the G35) is beyond me, but that's what he said.
I'm sorry if the topic is too lame for you, just don't post if it is.

because with every cycle, there is a small amount of wear on the electrodes. While the lifetime is 'the life of the car', repeated flashing will cause the salts to breakdown and your HIDs will look alittle reddish.
Everybody knows not to flash fluorescent lights. HIDs have ballasts as well, and they dont like flashing any more than fluorescent lights.
