INJEN exhaust blowing out FIBERGLASS?

Hi,

As most of you career G35Driver.com posters know, I recently installed my Injen exhaust and Kinetix cats. Since, the exhaust has been blowing out a fiberglass "dust" all over the back of my car that makes my car look like I painted the back of the car with metal flake. So, I didn't really think anything of it until my friend, SteveAreno, who also has the same exhaust, said that he's had the same problem and when he took his exhaust apart, the resonators were almost completely gone! My question is, should I be concerned and is the "blow off" normal for all exhausts systems? And, has anyone else who owns this exhaust experienced the same "blow off"?

HELP!

2 G or NOT 2 G, there is no question!

I'd be concerned if it fiberglass coming from the engine. Then again, if it's blowing apart itself, then that's a prob too.

Well, it's not coming from the "ENGINE", it's coming from the "INJEN", as in, EXHAUST.

Why aftermarkets are not warrantied for 6 years 70,000 miles like heavy duty expensive oems exhaust systems.

Many aftermarket exhaust/ cats etc are trashed by 3 years/36k some stainless steel look pretty good for longer but the sound changes as the fiberglass or metal matrix blows out.

Re: INJEN exhaust blowing out FIBERGLASS?

Ruben,

My intention was not to alarm anyone. I love the system! I was just concerned cuz Steve's system showed the same signs that mine is showing and his resonator was gone. Now, grant it, Steve is out racing (and beating) M3's all day and probably contrbuted to his blow out but I was just doing research before DOING RESEARCH, if you know what I mean. I did call Injen and the guy seemed real complacent when it came to answering any questions. I explained my situation and he was like, "do you notice a performance loss" and I said no and he said, "then I wouldn't worry about it". That wasn't the answer I was looking for since his answer did not include any technical reason why this could be.

N E WAY...I do love the exhaust, the exhaust note and the overall performance. What I don't like is, the fiberglass dust on the rear of my car, the driver side tip blackening faster than the passenger side and the customer service at Injen.

BTW, he said to give the exhaust a little more time to blow off the fiberglass built up when the system was made...whatever that means.

Re: INJEN exhaust blowing out FIBERGLASS?

Opps, forgot to answer your install question...SteveAreno and I did the install and it was fairly trivial to do but very time consuming. The cats were the hardest part, but by hard I mean, the bolts holding the stock cats on are torque down nice and tight and hard to get to. Other than that, a fairly inexperienced person can perform the install. WARNING: Be very careful when dealing with the O2 sensor that you'll need to remove from the old cats and install on the new one. They are very sensitive and I'll need to replace one of mine. $150! from the dealer. PM me for my cell if you have any other ??

Thanks for the great info Randy. I'll let you know how everything goes when my system gets here.

Fiber glass " glass packs" as they used to be called are a known quanity since they have been around for 50 years used by hot rodders in the mid 50's.

Surprised that with all the history, why Ultra premiums use metal filaments.......which to some extent do the same thing just later and lower volume of blown out parts but the sound is different.

Re: INJEN exhaust blowing out FIBERGLASS?

I actually experienced the same thing with my injen exhaust. It really bothered me at first- specially since my car is black. It made it look like the rear of my car was painted a black metalic... But now after about 3K miles on the system it has pretty much gone away... I have also noticed that the driver side exhaust tips does get darker a lot faster than the the passenger side ones.... Don't really know why tho... Besides this, I love the system and the sound...

Be careful when washing the rear bumper! I'd hate to read a post in a couple of weeks that said you scratched up the bumper washing the car or leaning up against the bumper.
