Re: 2004 Corvette instead of a G35 Sport Coupe

I wouldn't really compare the G to a vette. They are two different types of cars. The vette is a pure sports car and the G35 is not. A comparison of the 350z to the vette would probably be closer. To put the cars into perspective the G makes a great daily driver and the Z06 would be a good weekend car.

Free tires for life isn't unheard of. Some Lexus dealers here in the Orlando area are offering the same thing.

The vette is getting a redesign in 2005 so $9000 off the sticker sounds reasonable. If you hold off until the end of the year you could probably get a good deal on a Z06.

Now if you want to compare a car to the G35, look at the M3 or the new 6 series looks interesting as well.

I guess some people take it personally when someone likes a car other than theirs.4 months ago I took delivery of a '04 Commemorative Edition Vette fully loaded coupe.MSRP was $51K and I paid $41K. It's a great car,I don't care for the '05 too much.

Re: 2004 Corvette instead of a G35 Sport Coupe

If it's indeed free tires, not tire changes, then its almost too tempting to pass up. I'm sure there are stipulations such as one set of tires per 2 years or something, but those Corvette tires should be pretty spendy. As for the body style, I think the current Corvette will hold up even after the new one comes out. I still think the Stingray looks hot and the current Vette should have some staying power too.
If I had to pick between a Vette and a G, I'd probably have to take the G though. I've wanted a Skyline forever and now my dream is fulfilled. (until the GT-R arrives, that is...)

i have to agree with the others....free tires for life sounds pretty ludicrous. but hey, if he's right...go for it. that sounds like an insane deal!!!!

Re: 2004 Corvette instead of a G35 Sport Coupe

go for it. before my g i owned a 99 corvette. that was defiinitely my favorite car. it was so fun to drive and i never had any problems with it. the hud and 12 disk cd changer is awesome and better quality materials than the g. but i leased it, and when the lease was up i didnt want to get another same corvette when in 2 years a totally restyled vette was coming out. so i got the g, and when the lease is up on the g, im gettin the new vette.

Re: 2004 Corvette instead of a G35 Sport Coupe

"why "yeah right?"

BMW offers free oil changes for their cars, which should cost something like 50 bucks a pop......

the 04 corvette is trying to get pushed out of the showroom to make room for the 05, so they'll do anything to get rid of them.....i dont think its that far fetched..... "

Re: 2004 Corvette instead of a G35 Sport Coupe

Tires for life is not ridiculous. My local Toyota dealership offers that on many of their models. Its only money. They could offer another couple of thousand off the price and essentially have the same deal especially if it is financed and there is interest involved.

That being said, $9k off and free tires makes Z06 vette pretty close to the price of the G35 coupe. I would jump on that if my wife would let me own a 2-seater with 2 kids. The G was a stretch but I pushed it through.

Re: 2004 Corvette instead of a G35 Sport Coupe

I call bullshit. No dealer would EVER give free tire changes for life after going a couple thousand under invoice! Last time I checked, there was only a 20 day supply of Vettes, that in NO way shows this car is hurting for sales.

Re: 2004 Corvette instead of a G35 Sport Coupe

You're like 50 or something right? Corvette = mid-life crisis. lmao Just kidding. I swear all I see driving vettes are guys in their 50s+ and chicks. Vette is def a better performance car. Looks wise, the vette has had the same boring look for many years. The 2006 however looks pretty cool. Front end is similar to the viper IMO.

Re: 2004 Corvette instead of a G35 Sport Coupe

funny this convo came up...yesterday i went to the chevy dealership with my sis and her fiance' they wanna look at the new Equinox (not a bad looking SUV for the price range) they just wanna get a nice but cheaper SUV (i tried pushing the FX35/45 on them lol didnt work) they are getting married soon so bla bla u know that story...anyway...while there OFCOURSE i had to sit in the Vette...damn its ugly IMO the controls are soooo outdated - the 05 Equinox's controls were much nicer. But, its in a different category then the G so i really wasnt comparing. But what i did notice that turned me off was the placement of the sideview mirrors (sorry i was never really a vette enthusiast so most of it was all new to me) anyhow, the sideviews as u all probably know are like placed sort of in the middle of the door...I AM SOOO SHORT that when i moved my seat into a comfortable driving position...I WAS PRACTICALLY EVEN WITH THE SIDEVIEW MIRROR!! i tried moving the mirror in every angle possible - i couldnt see **** out of it! man i hate being short =/

Re: 2004 Corvette instead of a G35 Sport Coupe

I have to admit that the idea of an '03 or '04 'Vette has entered my mind (I'm a sports car NUT), but I have to have a back seat, end of story. Now, if I was already seriously considering a 'Vette, a $9K savings would go a ways in aftermarket items, which would likely swing me toward the 'Vette. Afterall, if you can't buy a Z06 you might as well try to get Z06 power or better.

The G35 Coupe fits the bill perfectly for me, and it's exactly what I've wanted since before it's introduction; a sporty coupe with a back seat, a strong NA 6 (preferably 300-325crank-hp range... ...which can be done pretty easily), a 6speed manual tranny and rear wheel drive. Being a Skyline and allowing me to achieve that ownership goal (even if only in some small, superficial way) just makes it that much more appealing.

Re: 2004 Corvette instead of a G35 Sport Coupe

Ive seen free tires for life advertised by Kia or something in a local paper, so its not out of the question. Im sure they have a set mileage or date when you can get new ones. I tried to buy my dads 97 vette from him, but to no avail. The interior of the C6 is a definite upgrade to the C5, but I wouldnt call the C5s bad. You can at least tell how much tire pressure in each tire.

Re: 2004 Corvette instead of a G35 Sport Coupe

I couldn't decide between the two cars as I liked them both so much, so I did the only sensible thing, and got both

They are definitely different machines, and do their own things very well.

If you can get an '04 Vette for the same price as a new G35, I would say go for it! As fun as the G35 is, you'll have more fun in the Vette. The question you have to ask yourself is if you can live with a 2-seater or not.

I don't understand why some people keep slamming the Vette interior so much. Yeah, it could be better, but it doesn't look that bad. And despite its appearances, its actually very functional and ergonomic. Its a more user-friendly and ergonomic interior than the G35. The controls are laid out better, and are easier to find and easier to use. And believe me, when you're driving the Vette, the LAST thing on your mind is the look of the interior.
