New G Owner

Hi everyone,

I am sure this has been posted already, but as I am new to the G and to the site I figured I d start off with some rookie questions. I just got my g35, its an 04, 35,000 miles, brembo brakes, red, black interior, love at first sight, lol.

I was wondering what the G is notorius for? I have read some parts on oil consumption, and etc, however I wanted to know how much oil I should put in at every oil change, the exact filter serial info, any technical stuff. Also does anyone have a post with all aftermarket parts, wheels, accessories and etc? Thanks for your help, look forward to chat with everyone,

AR

It's funny looking at your post because a year and a half ago I bought a red/black G with around the same mileage, and it definitely was love at first sight. However now I should tell you that it has about 60,000 miles, and I literally have a checklist of things that are wrong with it. But don't worry, the love is still there These things are all generally small, but still quite annoying.

So what is the G notorious for? It sounds like you want to know BAD things it's known for. The biggest problem that I (and many, many others) have had to deal with is window motor failure. These things go like there's no tomorrow, so be prepared. Also they're known for a few transmission problems (mine rattles) and it's pretty terrible on gas, especially for a 6-cylinder.

I don't have much done to my car, and to be honest I don't have much planned. I bought it because I wanted a car that had lots of goodies from the factory so I wouldn't have to add them. Plus, too many members have ruined their Gs IMO by doing too much to them. I would recommend debadging it though...I did it to mine and it looks so much cleaner. I just left the Mt. Fuji symbol on there and took off the rest.

Good luck and be safe.

oil consumption is only an issue on the rev up motors, which 04s don't have. I'll also say I never had an issue with my window motor, but I've heard of plenty of people problems with the door lock actuator (mine went out, but was replaced under warranty).

Hi Fellas,

Thank you very much for your response. Now that I really now the truth ,lol no way i still love my G. I dont think that will do too much to the G, except add some rims, and start off with an intake. Question though..I ve been looking to purchase an intake on ebay, and on some of them they are only 20 - 30 USD and others run anywhere from 250 - 500 USD. Can anyone tell me if it is even worth putting the intake in? Based on my research I have only seen that they give you only 8 - 15 hp increase if that.

So the other question I have is, can anyone possibly suggest a power chip?

Thanks for all of your help,

AR

ECU tuning is only worth it once you have the FULL PACKAGE of add-ons (intake, exhaust, plenum spacers, etc).

As for aftermarket intakes, the G35 OEM intake is actually very effecient and good at what it does. After some searching, I've actually found that the best set-ups outside of going FI is to have a better exhaust, OEM 2006 REVUP Intake box (with the higher velocity stack), the Z-Tube, a MREV1 or MREV2 Plenum Spacer, Grounding kit, and then perhaps get a tune.

Hope that helps.

If you don't mind, how much did you pay?

Congrats on the car.

G's are actually really reliable, but you probably will have the window motor problem unfortantely.

For the intake, either get a nice CAI or a Z tube. Our stock intakes are among the best, and you can't improve on it much. Put on a eBay one and your are gonna lose a lot of horsepower.

Welcome to Driver ARGT....:)

Nice find ARGT, I've had zero problems with my '04 so you really shouldn't expect any. Without spending a ton of $ using Mobil 1 synthetic and their oil filters will take good care of your engines internals. Intakes....all you really need is a z-tube and a K&N drop in filter. That will get you all the HP increase available from this mod plus a change in sound. You can get a z-tube from
Stillen 1-800-889-9043 or look under our Marketplace....stay away from eBay you never know what your getting.... Good Luck!

^ WHS....I highly doubt you'll get any good intake for $20, the saying you get what you pay for applies here.

Hi guys,

So here are a couple of pics of my G. As you can see it is completely stock, but the next thing that I am looking for is some new wheels. I have seen some axis wheels that I may be interested in, but then again I am looking for something that will give me a "deep dish". Also, I checked on the info for the oilfilter, and it looks like the exact serial # that the G or the 350z use is the following: 15208 65F0C. As for the amount of oil I beleive that 5 quartz is what the G requires (please someone correct me if I am wrong). I ve already orderd some accessories for it, just waiting for them to get in, and then its on. Anyone that can suggest anything about rims, hp, or anything else, please feel free to do so,

Thanks for all your help

garbage paint

excessive tire wear (goes through tires just as quick as gas)

clunky gearbox

annoying seat belts (goes for the choke hold instead of restraint)

that's what i can think of off the top of my head...i'm sure there's more

Hi,

thanks for the input. Of course I would like to stay within a cheap range, however I am sure according to my taste thats gonna be a little hard. I want to spend maximum $1500.00, but Im sure I may have to go over. I am looking for 20 inch wheels, which is the hardest part of staying in budget but you never know. PLease let me know what you think,

thanks
