Buying the mods of the 2005 that give it the 295hp
Hey guys,
From what i have heard, the 2005 will have 295 horsepower. (Correct me if i am wrong) If this is true,
1) Where do you think the added horsepower will be coming from? Does anyone know for certain?
2) Do you think it will be possible to purchase these parts directly from Infiniti?
3) These parts will not void the warranty, right?
4) What month are the 2005's supposed to be released?
Please forgive me if my questions have already been answered in another thread.
Thanks,
Evan

I think the 05's are coming out in september. I'm guessing the motor will have some sort of different intake manifold. Maybe a bit higher compression. And maybe different flow through the intake and exhaust ports. I'm just guessing though. I don't see how they can jump the hp up that much with just a few small things.

Like ImportTooner says it'll prolly be in the intake and exhaust, just like we've been doing already to our rides. Perhaps a tweek here and there in the ECU.
I can't see it being that much..... After all there isn't that much between the Sedan and Coupe engines.

The fact that the additional HP will only be on the 6MT makes me think that some of it may come from a different flywheel. Remember, the HP measured at the factory is at the flywheel.
Currently, 7 HP is given to the 350 via ECU, and different intake and exhaust tuning.
I doubt it will come from higher compression as now they have to mess with internals of the engine which cuts into the bottom line. If I were an engineer I would find 15 HP from bolt ons which point to: crank pulley, intake (including the collector, AKA plenum, flywheel, exhaust, ECU.
Nissan has already said to expect first deliveries of the 5AT in October, with the 6MT available towards the end of the calendar year.

I looked into here hoping to know what you were buying that would give it the extra HP.. I got tricked =/

Well hopefully, someone with the knowledge of what exactly infiniti is changing about the engine will read this thread and then be kind enough to enlighten the rest of us = 0 )

Good luck. I can't even get my Infiniti Service Advisor to properly explain why the Z gets 7 extra HP. Until you see the parts, or hear it from an Infiniti rep, it's all speculation.

The engine appear to have a little more left in the area of intake/exhaust cam duration and valve lift increases......overlap tuning.
Designing and making new cams is cheaper than other internals or even porting and polishing heads.
Raising the HP peak rpm to 6,600 and redline to 6,900-7,000 from 6,600 rpm should do it.
The question will be will the torque go up and by how much.....the clue is they are limiting it to manual so cams are my guess because the manual can deal with the loss of extreme low rpm torque.
Not much point in guessing.

All of you people are wrong. They got the horsepower from the grounding kit. BTW, when you buy the 6MT, you get to choose which color you want. What I am not sure is whether they use the 10,9,8,7,6,5,4 cable kit. : )

Just out of curiousity, if someone was to purchase the Technosquare ECU, which moves the redline from 6600 to 7100, how much of an impact would this change alone have on quarter mile and 0-60 times?
Would this change/move the rpm at which the engine reaches its peak horsepower?

I believe this mod would be neutral or even ditrimental to performance since corresponding mods to the intake and exhaust are not present.
Peak power is at a much lower rpm. If you have access to a graph from a dyno, you'll see power drop off dramatically after 6k.

Re: Buying the mods of the 2005 that give it the 2
Removing some of the built in safety margin for gasoline tolerance, hot weather, extended WOT is how most ecu mods work.........leaning the overly rich mixtures above the HP peask rpm tends to raise power up high.
The rpm at which HP peaks is a function of cam timing and air flow/friction/IMEP sometimes ecu changes can move the peak point up a few 100 rpms.
Redline extension usually only helps when say you have to shift to avoid the 6600 rpm redline in a timed trial like quarter mile or some such...........as tranny get closer and closer in ratios between gears sometimes it hurts the situation.
BMW new upcoming 7 speed MT might be a case in point depends on gear span vs torque curve and the multiplicative effect.

Re: Buying the mods of the 2005 that give it the 295hp
This post is kind of funny. If you read the press release, Infiniti/Nissan doesn't have the final power specs. This is probably because they haven't finished the parts. The 05' 277HP sedans and 280HP auto coupe and sport auto coupe will be out in October. The 295?HP 6MT Sport Coupe won't be out until December. This means that there will be about 4 months without 6MT Coupe production.
