How much will my ticket be

I was coming home from work at 3:30 in the morning on the 5 freeway towards magic mountain in SoCal CA, more specifically, Santa Clarita. This was sunday morning and I just wanted to get home, so i was going about 85-90. I got pulled over by a female in a highway patrol car. I figure the security is extra tight because of the long weekend and all. Anyway, she wrote me up for doin 85 in a 65. How much do you estimate my ticket will be?

The officer can't quote bail, it's illegal. If you plead guilty, it will be points and a few hundred bucks. Yes you can go to traffic school if you haven't been within 18 months of your prior citation. What if the officer told you one thing, and it turns out to be something else. You would be on here saying what a dumbass she is for telling you something wrong. What did you want her to tell you.

Fight the ticket, the officer will be happy collecting time and a half in court.

Yeah you're right, I really dunno what I wanted her to say. I guess I wanted her to understand and lemme go but that didnt happen. Either way I guess I will fight the ticket and say that I wasn't going that fast. I can take traffic school since the last ticket I recieved was over 2 years ago.

If she wanted to be nice, she would have dinged you for 75 in the 65 zone, which would have been the minimum fine. 20 over is going to cost a bit. It should be printed on the ticket somewhere (usually is), or you have to call the court and they will tell you what the fine is.

here is an interesting site with some good links regarding traffic laws in various states, including official tolerances for speeding.

probably with traffic school, a couple hundred bucks. you can do the traffic school online at your own pace now and just show-up for the written exam.

from what i hear, c.h.p. are always ****** and almost never let you off with a warning. on the other hand, i've been lucky several times with local cops and got off with warnings for speeding and a couple other infractions.

Re: How much will my ticket be

The ticket is going to be roughly $260. My friend got an 85 in a 65. Then add the $29 traffic school fee and the price for traffic school itself (roughly $35) and you are up to around $324. Enjoy =P

I paid around $400 w/ traffic school for a 61 in a 35... tickets suck

At least you didn't get nailed with a doubled fine for 85 in a 55 from that "strictly enforced" construction zone while they work on the bridge.

Re: How much will my ticket be

I got a 70mph in a 65 zone. CHP on PCH w/radar gun. Cost $110 for bail, but the total including court costs electing traffic school was $151 PLUS $35 for the traffic school (on-line).
From what I read, if you fight the ticket & loose, you give up the right to traffic school, so give it a lot of thought.
I now have a radar detector.
Good luck.

Another resource if you live in CA is this link to the courts. You can look up your ticket by DL# or ticket # and elect traffic school or court date.
Be patient as it takes a fews weeks to post in the system.
