FAQ: Clutch
What kind of material is the clutch made out of? I am confused because of how a manual transmission works. When you release the clutch to engage, it is to catch the flywheel that is spinning. Thus, induces a forward motion based on how much air is added to the engine. After a while, the clutch will eventually wear out and be replaced. Since no one talks about replacing the flywheel, I assume that the flywheel is changed only for faster revs. Why so? Is the clutch made of a material that is much softer than the flywheel that will allow it to rub away thus preserving the flywheel? I mean there are flywheels that are made of lightweight aluminum. It's easy to melt and grind away. Someone please clarify this for me. Thanks.

I'd tell you but this link is a better informative diagram on how it works, also you can look up manual transmission if you want to find out how that works also.
