Oil filter location/removal?
Oil filter location/removal?
I searched on this forum and googled but couldn't find any articles with pictures showing the location of the oil filter (I do not have the owners manual on me at the moment). I wanted to know if it is mounted vertically or horizontally and if I "happen" to need an oil filter removal tool (preferably one of those adapters that fit onto the filter), would I have enough room to do that? I want to do the first oil change as it is approaching 1200 miles and I have free time today. I already have the Nissan filter and just need to buy the oil. Pictures would definitely help if anyone has them available. Thanks.
Re: Oil filter location/removal?
it's sideways. I used an oil wrench (the kind that have the rubber strap or something), and it wasn't too hard to take out.
It should be easy to use any one of those oil filter removal tools if needed.
Sorry no pics though.
Good luck

It's on the passenger side of the engine. I used my hand to remove it. You don't need to change the oil at 1200. Infiniti doesn't use break-in oil.

Re: Oil filter location/removal?
There is a plastic undercarriage tray that has about 20 screws that that picture does not show. The tray as a rectangular hole in it that shows the filter. I unscrew about 5 of them and bend it out of the way when I am taking the filter off. I had to use a screwdriver when I changed my oil the first time. I got an oil filter wrench that looks like a giant chanellocks and had plenty of room.

3750 miles for the first oil change is fine.
In the meantime get yourself some 2"x10" lumber, some 3" spikes, and build yourself a ramp like this. I used about 16' (total) of 2x10 to make them and they're perfect.

Hey Colin are you using those ramps to get up to the Rhinos or are you getting under your car when it's on those alone?

Re: Oil filter location/removal?
I had to use a monkeywrench to take off the filter the first time, i [censored] you guys not. Not sure who was working the factory line that day at Nissan land but that thing wouldn't budge.
