Towing a boat - bad idea?

I have an 18 1/2 foot ski boat, I'd estimate with the trailer the weight to be around 2,500lbs. I've seen some people on here get hitches to tow utility trailers as well as jet ski trailers.

Is it possible to tow a boat? The G35 seems to have plenty of rear-wheel torque.

Note: I had an '01 Prelude (4-cyl, 160 torque) that had a hitch, towing a utility trailer loaded with a 600cc motorcycle and at other times a jet ski trailer w/ a heavy jet-ski with ease.

I'm unable to afford: 1) A dry-dock or 2) a truck. I hate selling my boat..

You probably can tow it, but the real question is will you be able to stop with all that weight?

According to the Owner's Manual, the maximum towing load is 1000 lbs. It sounds like your boat is WAY over the limit.

Ya I dont think it would be a good idear. The car is not made to stop with that kind of weight, or take a corner and try and slow down.

Don't do it, even though it is possible, it is not safe or recommended. Not good for your car either.

+4 - please don't do it. If you want something to tow a boat, buy a truck, not a sports coupe.

really thought about that??? hmmmm...i wouldnt

+100000000 times please NO, thats an accident waiting to happen.
suspension weight, hook, 2.5k in the rear..and stopping distance of what 1 mile.LOL

cost analysis: accident in a G35 towing, OUCH and could get ugly...plus wear and tear
Renting a truck: worry-free, pay 1 time, and have no worries
i say 100-150 a day or weekend for a truck at a rental place?

Harden the F$#K up and tow it with your G35. I have a huge snowplow on my G35 and it pushes that plow as well as towing a trailer at the same time with my 22500 pound CAT backhoe on it from one work site to another, uphill, and in the snow on the stock Michilin Pilotsport tires with ease.
