Re: Failed attempt on first oil change

My only trip to my Infiniti dealer (Infiniti of Memphis) resulted in them trying to lose my valve stem cap, taking 4 hours to do a Consult reprogram on my key fob/lock unlock program, washing my car when I specifically told them not to, and when I did the pre drive off inspection found that they didn't even do the re-program. Then they asked me for $22 for a bottle of touch up paint. No way I'm ever taking it back there if I can do the maintenance myself. If it's less than a $200 warranty item, I'd rather drive 6 hours round trip and let Crawford handle it.

Re: Failed attempt on first oil change

I like the idea of homemade ramps with the 2x8's. I have been using my ATV wooden ramps that I put in front of the Rhino ramps and it works, but it is a PITA. I think I'll make my own ramps with the 2x8s. BTW, you can save money by doing your own oil change, but that's not why I do it myself. I use one qt of Mobil 1 and 4 qts of Mobil Drive Clean. It is less than $10 plus a couple of bucks for a filter. I like the convenience of doing it myself, making sure I use a copper crushable washer, and getting the plug back in properly. Also, I like knowing that I removed the plastic screws carefully and reinstalled them correctly.

Catatafish...I agree 100%
The car jack should be for roadside emerg only.

There is no way I'm going under a car with one of those POS jacks holding it up.

One of the locals used the OEM jack and had his coupe come crashing down on him! He had to call a towtruck to come jack the thing up off the ground so he could check it for damage and get the wheel back on. Definitely not a good idea to get under your car with the supplied jack!

Re: Failed attempt on first oil change

you can take your front tires to 38 PSI and it will help you clear the Rhinos completely. you can still use some 3/4 MDF squares for that extra clearance. Just do not forget to take your PSI back down, as dont want to trash your tires.

Just curious about the "oil change pros" talk, I've talked to several GMs and SMs who freely admit that the lowest man on the totem pole does the oil changes. One told me its almost like punishment. I was also told its one of the few jobs for uncertified techs *and* they are under pressure to hurry.. Ummm, no thanks.

Spending $45 was primarily for the ramps plus oil filter removal tool along with the 5 quarts of oil. The ramps and oil filter removal tool are definitely going to get its money worth in the long run because I can use the ramp for my other cars and continue changing my own oil.

Re: Failed attempt on first oil change

On my sedan there is a bubble on the front cross member that fits my jack like a glove. I haven't changed my oil as while it is in warranty I will take it to either the dealer or an oil change place. I don't want to deal with any issues of proving an oil change was done.

I do however jack it up to take the plastic aerodynamic skid off. The oil change place I go to wants to charge an extra $15 to remove it and replace it.

Re: Failed attempt on first oil change

When I did my 1st oil change... I noticed the dealership left out 4 bolts that places the aero kit. Most dealerships will skip cleaning afterwards...sometimes leave out other things like Catatafish mentioned. This is why I'll do my own oil changes. As for paying the dealerships $40 to get it done .. I could go with Mobile1 synthetic oil and Pure1 filter well under $40
