Speeding ticket question..

Should I be grateful that a cop wrote me up for a 51 in a 45, because he forgave me for going "88". He says if I contest he will remove his previous citation and give the 88 as evidence. I mean... this doesn't make sense.

I know I was speeding, and I think I should be grateful for him giving me a 51 in a 45.. but hell... that means he really doesn't know how fast I was going, or does he?

Any advice?

I don't understand. He clocked you going at 88 and wrote down 51 in a 45 to be nice. Why the hell are you complaining? You were going nearly double the speed limit, you are lucky he didnt [censored] you over.

It doesn't make sense. But your lucky because you can go to traffic school. I heard if your 20mph over the limit you can't go to traffic school.

Thats why I'm asking.. it doesn't make sense...

He could have easily taken me to jail if he really had clocked me at 88... I mean.. I figure hes trying to "sell" the ticket.. But by the time he got on my tail I was already pulling over for my exit..

Re: Speeding ticket question..

I don't think so.. I was clocked once by a cop going about 90 in a 45 zone in calabasas. The cop was very lenient and wrote down 65 in a 45. He never showed me the radar, but i knew i was going that fast so there was nothing to argue about. Oh yea, the cop also pulled up behind me when I had parked the car and I was getting out. I had no idea where he came from.

If i were you I'd take the ticket, pay for it, and request traffic school. Don't try to fight it.. But thats just my opinion, good luck!

Radar isn't used from the air.

Re: Speeding ticket question..

I would be grateful if I were you. I once had a cop clock me at 115 right after getting onto the freeway (years ago) when the speed limit was 55. I told him the truth - I was trying to get away from this POS semi-truck that was flinging rocks all over my ride. He said he understood, but still had to give me a ticket. He wrote the ticket for "exceeding 55" which ended up being relatively inexpensive.

I would call a lawyer and see what he says. What does it say for a cop if they write you up for a violation that is less than the real offense, only to threaten you with the original offense if you contest the lower offense. Sounds like legal games cops shouldn't play.
