No offense to your friend, but I find the old 850 to be one of the most uninspiring BMW ever built. It looks like a oversized Ford Probe with Knight Rider lights. Everytime I see one I wonder why the person didn't buy a Mercedes SL.

 

They were cool 10 yrs ago just like the wheels. Just a bit dated for my personal taste.

My father has one ( a 91 ) converted to the 94 850CSi specs, with the full Dinan engine tuning package. Apparently, its good for 500 hp, and let me tell you, the damn thing flies in 4th and 5th like nothing I've ever felt before. Most beautiful and purposeful bmw ever built in my opinion. For those who say it looks dated or boring, youve never sat in one, so this is expected. Once youve driven it, you realize how ahead of its time it truly is, the motor is still one of, if not the most balanced motors ever built (you can stand a 2 euro coin on it, rev the [censored] out of it, and the coin will not fall). The mercedes SL is a joke compared to an 8 series, and to say that an 8 series owner should have bought an SL is just ignorant.

the 8 series is an amazing car. If you've never driven one or taken a ride you have no idea. This car is an absolute beast above 70. It would own our stock G's. Never underestimate the power of age.

I agree, the 8 is indeed an incredible car. And back in the days it was the hot sh*t. I liked it better than the SL. Just my opinion.

 

It's a real gas user though...wouldn't wanna own that if u use it as a daily driven car cuz with the gas price as of now, it'll eat u alive :\
