Coupe Swap?

I have an order for a coupe with a June delivery at my dealership. But today I found the same car being delivered to another dealership in April. And it has NOT been sold yet. I went to my salesman and asked if they could get that car since it hasn't been sold yet and he didn't seem too thrilled. It was almost as if I was bothering him or something. He gave me this whole story about how they would have to find a car to swap, if that other car was *really* available, etc. He just didn't seem like he wanted to help me out at all. Its so funny how the salemen tune changes once you sign the order. They don't care about you. When we were done speaking he said to me "well, i have cars to sell, goodbye". I think it bothered him that I KNEW more than he did about what cars are available, etc. And I thought I was being nice by giving him the business.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Re: Coupe Swap?

Have you got a refundable deposit on the June delivery? If it is go set up the deal on the April delivery and then go get your deposit back. I would.

Re: Coupe Swap?

Because of the high demand for G35 Coupes, most dealerships will probably not want to swap vehicles. Instead of acting put out, he should honestly explain how things work. I would do like the first reply and deal with the other dealership and get your deposit back. My Infiniti dealership was extremely nice, honest, and helpful.

Re: Coupe Swap?

anthony,

I can tell you haven't shopped much, or at least don't know how dealers work. If you know another dealer that has a car, all you need to do is contact that dealer and say I want that car, is it available?

If you tell your current dealer, in which your deposit should've had a refundable deposit policy, that another dealer has that car they wont help you get it unless they have the same car to swap.

No dealer will take a swap from another model (for Infiniti at least) The dealer that has the car wont let it go because they will lose the sale. Rather if your current dealer offers something good enough for the other dealer to consider. However if your current dealer has something, you wouldnt be finding another dealer

One issue like mentioned in this forum before. COLOR, a dealer will NOT swap a silver g35 coupe for any other color. Maybe the same color. They will not swap a 6MT for a 5AT either. Thats understandable since these cars are so adored by the public.

My advice, get your money back and head to the other dealer and write them a check. It's that simple. Your dealer will never help you doing anything that you didnt pay them for. Remember that. Wish it goes well.

Re: Coupe Swap?

Thanks all for the reply.

Another reason I wanted my dealer to swap is because the other dealership is in another state.

If I do buy the coupe out of state, can I still take it down to the local Infiniti dealership to get serviced, etc? Will I still be elegible for a loaner car?

Thanks.

Re: Coupe Swap?

You can surely get it serviced anywhere you want. The loaner could be a different issue. You might make an anonymous call to the service group and inquire. ...dean

Re: Coupe Swap?

I bought my coupe from another state too. You can take the coupe to your local dealer for service, in fact to any Infiniti dealer in the country.

You might have to work things out regarding the sales tax. Make sure that if the dealer charges any sales tax for the other state, he gets you a receipt from the DMV from that state otherwise you local DMV will charge you the taxes again.

Anthony,

When I picked up my car at Devan Infiniti, they said that infiniti owners that purchased their cars elsewhere can get loaner cars there. However, they say that people that bought an infiniti from their dealer will get first priority on their loaner cars. In other words, you can get your loaner car, just make sure you call ahead.

Re: Coupe Swap?

anthony whats wrong with you man? you just depressed your salesman for the next 2 weeks

LOL! no wonder he said "i have other cars to sell, bye" man working in retail really sucks!

Just call the out-of-state dealership and setup and appointment and get the car from them. Then come back to your dealership and ask for a refund of the deposit.

Re: Coupe Swap?

I would do what gsedanman suggests. Dealers will not swap b/c they will lose the immediate sale. These cars are hot. Put your dep down on the april car and get your money back on the other dealership.

Re: Coupe Swap?

I had my car in order at one dealership, but ended up buying at another when I saw what I wanted, I just kept an eye on the inventories daily, my deposit transsaction was never processed, They told me four months I found it in two weeks, I just went and found a salesperson and bought it! Than called the other dealership and canceled the order, they can't charge you nothing if you don't buy! This is a capitalist country don't use the salesman you had, go directly to the other place and buy it! as I did. From someone else, you have no allegiance to no salesperson, trust me!
Than maybe I'm lucky that there is 7 dealerships whithin 50 miles.
