I just bought a BEL RX 65 after looking into it all. The BEL just beat out the Valentine, because the BEL picks up the new POP radar.

my vote also goes for the bel after reading reviews and seeing them in action. I have seen v1's, escort 8500 (not x50), and the new bel in action and pretty much have drawn the conclusion that after a certain point of performance it really doesnt matter what u get, and for all purposes related to radar, u will enjoy whatever u get (if you are looking at the top end v1, passport, Bel range

04 6mtC, DG - possibly most babied G on the board.

 

The radar and laser performance of all 3 are similar, so it's really up to features and price.

1. escort 8500 x50 and bel can detect POP, whereas V1 currently does not
2. escort 8500 performs better at not being detected by radar detector detectors, which is only important in Virgina, Wash DC and parts of Canada
3. V1 has arrows to indicate direction of detected radar, some say it's useful, but others say it doesn't matter as you'll slow down anyways regardless of direction
4. escort 8500 has automute which will mute the sound a few seconds after something is detected
5. escort 8500 has better filtering of false positives
6. escort 8500 can be bought for ~$250 new, V1 you buy factory direct for $400.

I believe Escort now owns Bel electronics.

I have the previous model 8500 hardwired with Mike's rear mirror bracket. No complaints, works great.

 

passport 8500. best radar detector i have ever owned. and believe me spending for a high end radar like the passport is worth every penny in terms of fewer false alarms thus being more aware in those instances when it does go off.

What is Mike's rear mirror bracket? I've been interested in getting one but is his mirror bracket a better fix?
