Re: Problem with 6-Manual

Speaking of traffic... I live in NYC, it was hell the second day on my drive. Nearly killed someone when I treated the MT as auto. The people are crossing the street and I forgot to depress the clutch. Car shuddered, so I decided to depress and gas... too much gas too soon. Thank God for brembo brakes. And the car stalled also. Everyone just looked at me and honked. I haven't stalled since the 3rd day of driving. Today is my 5th. Even thought IS EXTREMELY EMBARASSING to stall infront of people, don't let it deter you from getting MT. I fell in love with it the second I picked it up for it's cruise home. No regrets. I am a happy camper.

Re: Problem with 6-Manual

It took a while for the clutch to get less grabby, and for me to get a feel for it, but by now, at 10K miles, I can launch the car (gently, on a level surface) with only about 800 RPMs on the tach. When I do that, the clutch is only slipping for a fraction of a second before I'm rolling and can let it out. I'm hoping to extend my clutch life a good deal by doing it that way whenever a quick launch isn't needed.

Re: Problem with 6-Manual

Yeah it is a pain in traffic(Chicago loop area anyone?) but whatever. I think the advantages of a stick (fuel economy, brembos, responsiveness, etc) far outweigh the disadvantages. In terms of slushboxes, tips, autos, they can definitely be a covenience. I have driven some 911's with tips on them and the g is imo much more direct. The bahn burners seem to have more of a delay to them when you stab the throttle.

You guys are too nice.

Treating a manual-trans car like an auto-trans is just a potential accident just begging to happen. I think you need to take a step back and trade your car in for a car with an automatic trans, just for other people's safety.

Re: Problem with 6-Manual

ok please dont laugh at me for asking this, im a noob manual driving and im gonna get an '05 g35 coupe. well anyways here's the thing.

my first time i learned manual, my friend taught me on his old integra. he told me to start by holding down the clutch and slowly release it and pressing the gas pedal in as you release the clutch. im pretty sure this the correct way to start off in first. but i wasnt very good at it. it took me a long time to rev and press the clutch and press the gas in at the same time.

another friend showed me how for my second lesson on his F-150. he told me to not worry bout the gas and just push the clutch in about halfway until it catches. as it catches give it some gas and let go of the clutch completely. to me this was, of course, a lot easier since im a noob. i drove all the way home from my school with ease.

the thing im worried about is how to start off on a hill?
is it possible to start off on a hill the second way?
