Considering a 2005 G35 Coupe 6MT - What To Look For?

Hey guys,

I'm seriously considering getting a 2005 G35 Coupe 6MT with the sport & premium packages. I want to buy from a dealer in hopes that I can have them agree to inspect for oil in the valve covers (since that's the main issue I'm worried about). I also know to look out for:
  • Bad CD player
  • Squeaks and rattles
  • Clutch slipping
  • Axle click

Is there anything else I should look out for? Also, does anyone know approximately how many cars have these issues? I don't want to get a car that's going to be a reliability issue. I know that more people come back to complain than praise, which is why you see more topics about issues with a car rather than how perfect it is, but I'm still curious as to how often these issues occur. If you own an 05 G35, I'd much appreciate if you could post your approximately mileage and any issues you may have encountered.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Squeaks and rattles will happen on all of them.

I heard that also, and yet I have read of people who are around the 50-60k mark and never heard a single squeak or rattle. Any idea where the noises come from and whether or not they are fixable?

If a G35 user has never heard a squeak or rattle, chances are they're deaf, or have the god given ability to tune out said noises.

Just make sure the car is mechanically sound, which you appear to already have in mind.

Ok so, squeaks and rattles: fact of life. Some people more than others. Anything else? Maybe a better question to ask would be: how do you guys like your G35s? Do you think there's a reason I should steer away from one and maybe look at a different car?

If you want to know what is liked about Gs search for the what do you love/like about your G thread. The list goes on and on. Also on this forum I don't think anyone would steer you away from getting a G.

Just make sure it's still under warranty if anything was to break, as I did. Mine's already had a new fuel pump/sending unit + the TSB on the rear axle clicking. Thank goodness it was still under warranty! Other than that, these are great cars. G/L
