Fuel Gauge Issue?

I'm new to the G so excuse my ignorance if this is a common issue.

My understanding is that the fuel tank capacity is 20 gallons - I've had the G for a few weeks now, and I can drive for a full day with the "low fuel" indicator and I'll still barely get more than 12 gallons into the car. I know most cars give you a pretty wide margin of error re: the fuel warning, but 8 gallons seems pretty absurd (I'm coming from the DSM world where tanks were 15 gallons, warning came on at 11-12).

Is this commonplace, or is there an error in my fuel gauge/sensor?

I just had a new fuelpump/sending unit put in under warranty.....didn't fix it. Now I have to get a new instrument cluster installed, which is currently on backorder...ugh!

It's the fuel filler neck... there is a pressure return pipe in that thing which is known to malfunction on our cars. There was a recall or a TSB covering the repair of it.... and the problem usually manifests itself by you not being able to fill the car up all the way at the station. The pump will keep shutting off after you put in like 12 or 13 gallons and not let you fill all the way up.

Your car is still under warranty(unless you have a ton of miles on it), so you should be able to just bring it into the dealer and have them fix it for free.

The fuel filler neck sounds like the problem - because the fuel gauge never reads "full" either after filling it at the station. Thanks for the help.

Not to highjack the thread, but what annoys me is that the low-gas indicator light is the same color as the rest of the lights in the instrument-cluster. So it always takes me a while to notice that the gauge is low. I usually am careful about this but it has happened a few times that by the time I noticed it the gauge was super low!
I have an 04. Maybe they have corrected this in newer models by putting in a different color light? Any solutions/suggestions( other than keeping the tank always full!)?

My suggestion to you is to actually look at the fuel gauge every once in a while and not rely on the low-fuel light(aka Idiot-Light).

Another thing you can do to help remind you when it's getting close to fillup time, is to reset your trip-odometer every time you get gas, and leave the odometer setup so that it shows your trip mileage... then whenever you look down and see that your miles on that tank is close to 300 Miles(or however many miles you get per tank), that will give you another heads-up warning that you might need to get gas soon.

on the 07 coupes, there is a bulletin for "hard to fill past 1/2 tank"

there is a small cover that needs to be installed in the tank. just did this...NOT fun.

You would think with all the problems we have had with this fuel issue all the way back from 2003 that these fuking so called engineers and designers would have fixed this issue by now.

For me it the gauge reads FULL, but the first 1/4th (according to the fuel gauge) runs VERY quickly. After that it lowers at a normal pace. I can only put 14 gallons at most as well. 2004 no warranty so =\ Tried putting techron like some suggested but no fix to it.
