How to Paint Brake Calipers ???

I am about ready to paint my 5AT (non-Brembo) brake calipers red to match the Laser Red car color.

Does anyone have any step-by-step instructions or tips on what paint to buy and how to apply it?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Jason

Re: How to Paint Brake Calipers ???

This is what you'd want to use... G2. I used this on my old Honda and it held up wonderfully. Only problem is the red may or may not match the laser red. I had the red caliper paint and it stayed shiny for over 2 years with no flaking, blistering, peeling, etc... I had a black car with red calipers and really was pleased with the product.

Apparently, if you do some research on this product, it will withstand temps. in excess of 900 degrees Fahrenheit. That means it is good to use on racecars.

The above statements are only my take on the issue. If you disagree with anything I typed then you are 100% right!

While we're on this subject, can someone tell me if it's possible to get the the Brembo stickers?

I was thinking of painting my Brembos in red, but don't want to lose the Brembo logo...

Thanks.

Are you planning on painting your Brembos red? Or powdercoating? I ask because I believe the Brembo's are powder coated.

Re: How to Paint Brake Calipers ???

i did it about 2 weeks ago. i used g2 "red" from tirerack.com. i took it to a local customizer they charged me 2 hours labor ($65/hr). 3 coats, the color is great, even, and bold. i bought the infiniti/g35 silver decals from a guy on this board. they removed the wheels. cleaned the calipers. masked off the brakes and brush painted 3 coats. let dry for 48 hous. apply the decals after 24 hours. no clear coat needed. the decals are fused with brake heat. people deffinately notice them. my girlfriend doesnt like it. her exact words were "that's not cute" it a guy thing. now i just need my 19" maya dtm or axis supermesh to make it complete. i will post pics when i figure out how.

don't start no sh*t, won't be no sh*t!

Re: How to Paint Brake Calipers ???

I bought the Dupli-Color Kit a couple of weeks ago, just haven't gotten around to doing it. Here are the enclosed instructions:

Step 1-Remove all 4 wheels from vehicle. Calipers and or drums do not need to be removed. For best caliper results, unbolt caliper and remove brake pads. Do not remove brake line.

Step 2 Clean surfaces to be painted with enclosed Dupli-Color Caliper Cleaner. Read directions and precautionary wording before use. Spray surface with Caliper Cleaner.

Step 3 Scrub Caliper Cleaner on caliper with a clean toothbrush or equivalent. Wipe dry with a clean towel. Be sure to remove all brake dust and or contaminants.

Step 4 Masking of the surrounding area is recommended. Tape off the brake bleeder screw, brake lines and caliper piston boots.

Step 5 Read directions and precautionary wording carefully. Remove lid from paint can. Stir contents thoroughly for 1 minute with the enclosed stir stick.

Step 6 Apply paint to the caliper or drum with the enclosed brush in thin, even strokes. Allow paint ot set-up for 15-20 minutes between coats. Apply additional coats as needed to even out brush strokes and obtain full coverage. Apply second coat within 1 hour or wait 5 days.

Re: How to Paint Brake Calipers ???

where do i get this dupli-color kit? i've heard about and seems like a good product. i've also heard about the G2 which is probably a better kit but also carries a tag of $38 -- for paint.

do you get this dupli-color online or locally in like a pepboys or something?
