What's the best tint brand to get on the G coupe?

 

try to find Huper Optik

 

Depends on price range. If you want high-end, the best is huper optik (around $250-350 in nyc). If you just want regular everyday tint ($150-200) that holds up well, i'd look into llumar, suntek and solargard. Obviously, there's a lot more to it, like whether or not you want metallic tint or colored tint, but take my word for it, most of its just a bunch of crap that wears and tears like no other.

I have SunTek (which might be a type of tint made by solargard...iforget) and it does the job fine. Very good three year warranty. I think the most important part is finding a good tinter. If you want to do more extensive research, check out the forums at www.tintdude.com. They also have a tinter registry that has professional tinters in your area. Give them a call and research prices. If you're from NYC, I went to a good, reasonably priced tinter, who I can recommend.

If you have a Formula One dealer in your area I would check there. Their Ultima product has a lifetime transferrable warranty to never fade, turn purple, peekl or bubble. You are looking in the $300 range for the install.

What's so good about Huper Optic? I kind of got brainwashed and got my car tinted with HO, but never quite understood why it's one of the best. Is it just because it's ceramic and doesn't interfere with radio/nav signal?

btw: I got mine installed last week at CT, there are still lots of small water bubbles, they would go away after awhile, right?

 

sukairain: huper optik's supposed to be good because of clarity. some bad tints are blurry and reduce nighttime (as well as daytime) visibility. I'm sure there are other reasons, but I just don't know them.

As for the bubbles, they won't go away. Were the bubbles there when you picked up the car or did they develop a few days later? Did you roll down the windows within 3-4 days from getting your window tinted? Either way, bubbles are unacceptable. They'll pop or the tint will come off eventually after constant up/down action of the windows. I'd demand for it to be redone. Are there bubbles where the tint meets the lining/door? Those are called fingers, and they'll cause peelage after a while too.

Hmmm no, they are not ait bubbles. Looks more like droplets of water got trapped underneath the film. They have been there since day one. All in the middle of the window nowhere near the edge. The installer told me the water will dry out in 1-2 months leaving no residues.

i live in georgia now and 35% tint is ok all around. i am from cali tho and may move back eventually. in cali, the side windows cannot be tinted at all. is it possible to remove tint if i go back?

One of the advantages of Huper Optik is that it is non-metallic so it will not block out Sat radio signal in case you want to put your sat antenna on the rear deck. Mine was metallic before I got sat, so I had an external antenna for a while and now I have it on the front dash and all is well.
