G35C vs RX-8...

Re: G35C vs RX-8...
RX-8 wins so many comparison tests I'm starting to think maybe it's actually a BMW.
Anyway, it's a good article. The RX-8 may have won, but I'll take power and beauty anyday.

Re: G35C vs RX-8...
Omg, I read this when the issue first came out. I was surprised to see the RX-8 come out on top after reading the article (I think R&T likes the G35C better).
I love the RX-8, but whenever I race one on the road (not often, but happened on a couple of occasions), the bigger 3.5 V6 of the G has no problem raping them.

Re: G35C vs RX-8...
Anyone notice the gas mileage on that cheap shitt rotary RX8? I'll pass!
The only thing that I can find that made the RX8 pull ahead in the test is the "fun factor" which to some, may mean an engine that can, while to others (R&T) means high revving, lighter body car.
I'll take torque, prestige and luxury any day of the week over a Mazda.

Re: G35C vs RX-8...
Balzac72, poor gas mileage and high emissions are two drawbacks of the rotary engine design. It's just the way rotary engines are; if you can deal with those two draw backs along with no torque, it makes for a really fun high-revving engine.
Another thing that bothers me about the rotary engine is that Mazda talks sooo much about how the new rotary engine in the RX-8 has fewer moving parts for higher reliability, yet the previous-generation Mazda RX-7 engines wouldn't last much longer than 100K miles.

Re: G35C vs RX-8...
It is obvious that the comparison was totally subjective. The rx-8 got kudos for having a "back seat" with "rear doors". I've sat in an rx-8 and I think the rear doors are worthless, and it even states in the comparison stats that the g35 has more rear seat leg room. In addition, the rx-8 got only a few points off for its horrible gas mileage, while the g35 got 10 points off for being $1000 more expensive! Lastly, the editor that drove the g35 said he rather own it instead of the rx-8.

It's also much lighter, smaller, and easier to balance. All other things being equal, the rotary will be the better performer once it gets into its powerband. The problem is they stuck this engine into a 3000 pound 4-door. Totally defeats the point. Put that same engine on the Miata's platform, and it will blow by a S2000 in the straights without upsetting its 50/50 balance in the corners. Rotaries are at a big disadvantage in stoplight racing though. On the other hand, stoplight racing gets old.

I think they meant compared to the previous rotary engines. The new one has a simpler combustion process.

Re: G35C vs RX-8...
F-ck the RX-8. It's ugly and it's now a ford. Especially seeing as how it's supposed good handling ended up making my friend ZOOM ZOOM himself into a friggin pole on a canyon run the other day in a turn that isn't even that hard to do. And no he isn't a bad driver he's an ex race car driver the car just isn't half as good as people say it is it's previous variation was far better. Now my friend is getting an 05' G when it comes out. you'll see him pop up here when he get's one and he'll give you the whole story.
