Re: G35 for Touareg..someone help
Some of you guys need to relax. Who cares about Escallade and Danali. They're so common. If you like the VW, then good. The interior is easily far beyond those GM suvs, even better than Infiniti's.
However, the price your talking about is ludicrus. Personally, I dont see why you want to get rid of your G so soon, but if you must, sell it privatley, then negotiate the best price on VW. Also, use Edmunds.com as a reference point for price/negotiations.

I did not actually read all the posts on your subject but I wanted to say this. The Touareg has some major issues and problems in it's first year introduction. Besides the VW electrical nonsense there are numerous complaints with this new sexy and rich looking SUV.. Do your homework before you take the chance from going from reliable Japanese to a possible nightmare.. I have a neighbor with a Touareg that is looking to trade it in because of all the trips to the dealership. Go To Edmunds.com and read about any complaints. I'm not sure about JD powers yet. May be too soon. Good luck with your decision.. At least I know that my G is trouble free after trading my 01 Passat GLX with endless issues. I hope I'm not bursting your balloon, but it's better to be an informed consumer.

Re: G35 for Touareg..someone help
seriously if theres this much debate on it why dont you just spring for a land rover..i mean its in the same price range. hahaha.
i just really dont like the taureg or cayenne and sorry to say but i'm not a huge fan of the FX with it's 40" stock wheels. i would say an H2 but they're fugly too and you're probably not a 4'6" woman either cause they're the only ones who drive it. go for a H1, be a man hehe.
i would recommend an X5 or even an MDX over any of these other sport luxury SUV type cars. but that's just my opinion..

I'm going along with Leeno and GG35 on this one. If you're not happy with your G, I know you won't be happy with that VW. Problems, on top of problems, with those Tour Eggs. I would recommend doing something that I never do, and that is paying for an extended warranty, if you decide to go that way. Good luck with your decision.

Without reading most of the posts between this and your original post let me answer your question.
The salesperson was incorrect, probably lazy and or near empty on IQ. The VWT is nice, problems are going to be common but withing warranty and should work themselves out as the car gets a little older. VW is among the lowerst scorers on repair. And lastly the VWT and the Cayeene are jointly built by porsche and VW. Why do you think they look so much alike in shape. Read up on it before asking for opinions from here or anywhere else. I recommend VWVortex, talk to owners and read the articles. Good Luck.

Re: G35 for Touareg..someone help
I think the Toureg looks tight. The problem is that it's a VW, which means bad reliability and below Infinit level of customer service. Also, a comparatively equipped Touareg actually costs more than an FX35 (and in the case of the V8 Touareg, way more). That's just dumb. The only justification of that would be the Touareg is a capable off-road vehicle. But how many people will off-road their $50K SUV? Especially in NYC? I'd go with the Lexus RX330 or FX35 before thinking about the VW.

Re: G35 for Touareg..someone help
I think I am missing something here. The first post is trying to understand why a $52k vehicle would cost $77k if he/she still owes $25k. If you trade it in and still owe the $25k then the dealership will "pay it off" by adding the balance to your new vehicle (52+25=77!). What is the issue here?
As far as VW, I previously had a 1999 V-6 Passat. I put 70k miles on it and, when it ran, it ran well. Unfortunately, that seemed to be infrequent. When the guys in the dealership shout out your name like "Norm" from Cheers, its time for a problem-free Japanese auto. My other vehicle is an MDX. Absolutely awesome, problem-free for 45,000 miles.
Peace....

LOL! Same here. I had a water-cooled VW years ago, and it ran well.....when it wanted to run. Unfortunately, mine had more vertical miles on it, in the service bay, than horizontal ones on the highway.

Re: G35 for Touareg..someone help
Trading in your G and purchasing the Touareg will work like this:
You owe $25K on your G. Let's say the dealership offers you $23K for it and they're planning to sell it for $25K (I'm just making up a # here, I have no idea what they will give you for it). What you'd do is, you'd give them your G along with $2,000 -which is the difference of what you owe and what they're giving you for it- and you're free of your G. THEN you finance a brand-new $50K Touareg.
1.) G35 Coupe w/18" wheels + NYC = not the greatest combo. The 18" wheels on the G makes all the bumps and road irregularities feel 100x worse than in a regular car. NYC has awful roads EVERYWHERE. I go into NYC quite often and I must say that it's not very fun.
2.) VW Touareg is expensive, but it's worth every penny. The interior is amazing and it offers all the luxury features of other luxury SUV's out there.
3.) The Porsche Cayenne was designed to keep Porsche out of financial trouble, and it's working. I see them all over the place here in NJ and in FL. Do not underestimate the Cayenne, it is an amazing vehicle. SUV's always have that problem of what kind of SUV it should be: good off-road, smooth ride on-road, or good handling. The Cayenne with optional air suspension (standard on the Turbo) is a master of all trades. It off-roads like a Range Rover, rides like a BMW, and performs like a Porsche.
4.) All cars have problems, our G's are FAR from problem-free...did some of you forget that?? The issue with VW is this: the Touareg has a lot of technology in it (air suspension, navigation, on-board computer, etc.) and if that goes wrong, it's pretty bad. VW dealerships are used to repairing Jettas, New Beetles, Passats, etc. where the most advanced thing on those cars is traction control. How the hell is the dealership gonna fix a Touareg if one of its complicated electronics goes wrong?? I used to own a 2003 Jetta and my local VW dealership's service department was full of morons.

I guess the problem with VW luxury cars such as the Touareg and Phaeton is that you're still dealing with a VW dealership instead of a real luxury dealership. Has VW upgraded their dealerships to be on par with say Mercedes-Benz (their "target")? Or do you get VIP treatment at VW dealership when you buy one of these two cars? Or are you treated the same as a Jetta or Passat owner?
There's no question the Touareg is a great SUV in V8 trim (something doesn't add up between the weight and power in a V6 Touareg), but do you get a true luxury experience that is suggested by its price?

Re: G35 for Touareg..someone help
Thanks Elussive. Your post was actually helpful.
Drivel....pay attention..lol
Once again like I said. I owe 25k on my G. The VW costs 52k. Dealer said I should hand him my G and pay 77k to take the VW. It makes no sense whatsoever because if thats the case then why trade the G. I could keep the G and make payments on it and purchase the VW and it would hit my pockets the same 77k. The VW dealer was a *****.
I am not trading my G. I will just buy snow tires and a dedicated set of 17" rims for the winter.
Thank you (to the helpful people of course)
