Why would the HR swap be so expensive if you could get one from a junkyard sedan or Z?

Seems like it should be able to bolt up to the tranny and it should be doable to put the two breathers in.

Any specific knowledge why this would be so bad?

That engine is awesome. The G sedans and Zs I have driven with it feel soooo much faster than the DE.

I'd go with none of the options and rebuild the DE. Doing a VQHR swap will cost you at the minimum of 10k. With all that money, I can get myself a nicely built stroker VQ which probably outputs far better than the HR and reliable.
EXACTLY!!!! Someone else who knows what he is talking about.

If you think the VQ is the only engine prone to oil consumption then you don't know much about other cars. Google "Oil Consumption" and tell me the cars on the first few pages of hits.

Onto the HR swap, be my guest and show us how its done and how much you spent on it. Then honestly tell us if you think it was worth it. I promise you would have wished you spent the money building the engine and hanging a snail on each exhaust manifold. You would have twice the power with just a tad bit more money spent. The HR engine is more different than you think.

Why does it matter how different the engine is per se? If people are putting LS1s into Zs, I can't imagine this could be easier than putting in an HR to a G.

Basically, it seems like the main concern is whether it bolts up to the tranny. If you take the computer with the engine, then that should control the dual throttle bodies. Move the battery and you should be able to fit in two short rams. If it doesn't line up with the tranny, you drill new holes. Would it be too high for the hood?

Given that my friend is our local GTR mechanic, would that make this seem more reasonable?

Like I said, you just go ahead and do that. Tell us how long and how much money you spent...then dyno it and tell us the gains and if you think it was worth it. It's a little more than the transmission bolts not lining up....and the battery is not up front, it's at the aft end of the passenger side far from the air inlet. Make sure you look at the coolant lines too, they are completely different. My argument is if you are going to get in that deep and spend that much money then IN MY OPINION (and we all have our own) an LSx swap would make much more sense. I love the HR engine, but if I were going to spend that kind of money on a swap then the LS engine would be a no brainer.

I would burn the rest of the car in a warehouse parking lot, call the cops and report it stolen.

^^^^Good idea!

Anyway, the poll has incorrect info on it.

*Any old VQ from Altima/Maxima etc
*VQDE from G35
*VQDE from 350Z (same engine as above)
*VQHR 298hp from G coupe/sedan (not an HR engine, but rather the Revup engine)
*VQHE 306hp from G35 sedan (What is an "HE"? This is the HR engine)

no one ever takes into account if you have smog and registration issues with a with a motor that was never put into the car on US soil. If you swap motors, you will not pass CA smog if they catch you. You then have to fish the smog black market every 2 years looking for someone to pass you. some may not notice, some will...

Just out of curiosity, why would no one chose to put an engine in from an Altima or Maxima? This seems like it would be the cheapest route, as a junkyard would probably not mark these up as much as the "sportier" Gs and Zs.

If these engines were hooked up the the G computer, do you think they would give the same output/dynamics?

I would probally do the RB26DETT or LS motor swap, but right now my VQ35DE is running just great.
