Help! suspension problems... need advice
2006 G35 2WD 5AT 17" Wheels
Heya all. Back in December, I hit something in the road. I think it was a concrete parking bumper stop, not exactly sure, but I know there was no blood. It hit the right front wheel, to the point where it split the rim in half and marked up the caliper.
I put on the spare, and drove it home. Bought replacement wheels from here, had them checked for trueness and roundness. Put on new tires, Kumho Ecsta ASX's all the way around. Now I have some weird vibrations and noise while traveling over 20mph. It seems to be worse turning left (remember, hit in the right front wheel) and almost non existent when turing right.
I have had the alignment checked, it was perfect. While on the alignment rack, I told the guy the story, and he spent a few minutes looking over the suspension just to be sure nothing was broken. I replaced the front brake pads and rotor thinking it could have been damaged. While the brake asembly was off, I checked the front wheel bearing, and there is no wobble or grinding. Put it all back together and the noise and vibration is still there.
Here are my questions.
1. Could this be a shock absorber problem? I think the front is a little more bouncy than it is supposed to be. Moreso on the right side than the left. When making interstate turns, it feels like I am hitting bumpstops during left sterring curves.
2. Could this be an issue with the tires? I head Kumho's make noise for a while, but this is something I have not experienced. Maybe a balance issue? I am going back to the tire dealer later this week and talk to them.
3. Could this be a bushing or other suspension component issue? What should I check? I have checked it over myself and cannot feel any excessive travel or movement, but maybe I am missing something.
4. Could this be a front wheel bearing after all? the noise, vibration is at any speed over 20, and sometimes under 20. Accelerating and braking does not matter. It feels good and tight but I am not a mechanic anymore.
Thank you for reading all this. I am at wit's end and would like some help before I dump another grand that I don't have into this car.
cliffs:
Hit something in road, repaired visible damage.
annoying vibration and lots of road noise.
advice please and thank you.
