Need your input guys!!
I need your opinions on this one guys. Basically my friends don't believe that i can hit 14.9 in the 1/4 mile with my stock 5AT G35 coupe. I think i can. So i asked them if they would like to put some money on it and they said sure. So do you guys think i can hit 14.9's or better???

Re: Need your input guys!!
depends on the elevation, temp and condition of the track...but even running at LACR (www.lacr.net) at 2700 ft above sea level, crappy track and in 100 degrees temps, I am able to run a 14.9 at 93mph trap speed.
2 G or NOT 2 G, there is no question!

Re: Need your input guys!!
I ran at Portland International Raceway a couple of weeks ago. The elevation there is only 25ft, and temp was 75F, and it was my first time at the track.
My 2004 G35c 5AT is completely stock (except for the alumimum pedals). I have the stock 18” wheels, Pilot Sports and LSD. Spare tire, jack, and back seat were removed. 1/3 tank of gas. ECU was reset by battery disconnect. VDC fuse under hood pulled. 50 PSI in front tires, 30 PSI in the rears.
My times were:
14.716 -- 95.51 MPH
14.748 -- 95.67 MPH
14.618 -- 96.22 MPH
My best time was in manual mode, powerbraking to the limit of the torque converter (about 2400 rpm), and shifting at redline. My worst time (still well under 14.9) was in full auto mode, launching with just a bit of powerbraking, then foot to the floor for the entire run.
So, it depends on altitude and temp, but if it were me, I'd take them for as much as they are willing to bet.

i agree with Randys_G
"depends on the elevation, temp and condition of the track"
also depends on driver tho. if you ahve faith you can do it, bet. if not, dont. launch properly in normal conditions, i believe you can eat that 14.9 sec time up. if you [censored] up and lets say smoke the tires too much or launch the car wrong, i dunno. its all on you. of course, it should be easier on a 5at. cant completely miss a shitt like in the mt. (go ahead and laff, but i have missed 3rd and [censored] up a street race pretty badly., *sigh*, how embarrisng)

Re: Need your input guys!!
Dude are you serious!?! Every magazine tells you a non broken in 5AT Sedan, nevermind a Coupe, can run as low as 14.6 or 14.7 in the right weather conditions...and tha't with a full trunk, etc, etc.
I ran 14.29 @ 96.4 with only a CAI and a 7 wire grounding kit. I have run as good as 14.31 at 101.3 mph since then, but still not quicker than when I was 99% stock.
You will break 14.9 not even trying unless you are running at like 2500 ft above sea level.
Good Luck!

Re: Need your input guys!!
I agree, the conditions were great, and my launches could have been better. The question is, how? For reference, here are my times, including my launch method and 60' time:
First run: Full auto mode, powerbraking to about 2000rpm
60’: 2.281
1/4: 14.716 -- 95.51 MPH
Second run: Manual mode, powerbraking to the limit of torque converter (about 2400 rpm). Shifting at redline. Going from 1st to 2nd I bounced of the rev limiter once.
60’: 2.286
1/4: 14.748 -- 95.67 MPH
Third run: Manual mode, powerbraking to limit, shifting at redline.
60’: 2.264
1/4: 14.618 -- 96.22 MPH
On all three runs I had virtually no wheelspin, just a brief chirp and then was gone. You can see that my 60’ times -- while not great -- are fairly consistent. On the street if I powerbrake with VDC off and launch, the wheels just start spinning, but the track apparently had much better grip.
Some over at FA have suggested that I should actually increase my rear tire PSI to allow a bit more wheelspin on launch, and some felt that feathering the throttle up instead of a full powerbrake launch would result in better times. Also, a few people thought that shifting at just over 6000rpm rather than at redline would help keep it near the peak of the horsepower curve.
Any thoughts?
For ipwG35 to take his friends' money, however, I say keep it simple -- full auto mode, a bit of powerbraking, then foot to the floor. This eliminates as many variables as possible (i.e. bouncing off the rev limiter), and he only needs a 14.9. Even in an automatic, a 1/4 mile run takes more concentration than you might think, especially the first time out.

Re: Need your input guys!!
I agree with the spinning technique...this gets the rpm's higher out of the hole. Are you mashing the gas or feathering the pedal? I would rec the latter of the two.
