I decided to be an idiot today and just de-badge the g35 off my car (was going to take INIFINITI off too but I ran into a complication). Stupid Goo-Gone faded my paint and now i have a slightly green-ish tint where the g35 use to be . Can i take touch up paint and sand down that area, do a thin touch up paint layer, then re-coat it? Is there any way to fix that spot without repainting the entire trunk area? Also any easier method would be awesome. Need help soon!

my is a 04 Diamond Graphite Coupe
and i debadged my i n f i n i t i lettering
and the G35 lettering ,it did leave a shadow
but after a few week/months of random waxing/
carwash the shadowing is gone

Do not sand it down, and add paint/clear unless you know what your doing.

I would start by buffing it, or have some one buff it thats good

 

Ok so here are some pictures. It is kinda hard to see the faded area as my car was sitting half way in the sun under the parking deck. This is the best picture I have currently, ill try to get some in better lighting later on.

 

That's new and different, I've never seen GooGone scratch or fade paint! Looks like your car was very dirty from the pic, should have started clean to begin. Go ahead, remove the infiniti letters and have someone with a highspeed buffer clean up your trunklid. Then add several coats of quality wax to preserve what you have, should look good!

Goo gone didn't do that.

 

yeah i swear it was goo-gone. I looked into it more and apprently they changed their formula to an "extreme" which is all that was sold at Lowes. The scratch is my dumb *** fault, i went to pick off one last piece of gunk and it peeled paint, apparently the goo-gone ate through some clear coat or something not quite sure. The paint fade is just because it is a highly concentrated solution, im guessing that i can buffer it and use a few coats of wax, hopefully that helps. Not quite sure, if not I guess i can get my guy to do a touch-up paint job

 

How did you get the goo gone to stick in just the area of the lettering though? On the multiple cars I have done, it usually drips down the paint.

Can you feel a difference in height when you rub your finger over it? Try the clay bar trick with a plastic bag. (put your hand in wet bag, onto wet paint and run it over to see if there is any bumps) Then clay it and use a good polish with a buffer and I don't doubt that it will look good again.

i didnt direct apply goo-gone, directions on the bottle say to use a rag, i used an old microfiber rag that I never use anymore then just threw away afterward. I guess the rubbing caused all of this, probably just gonna take it to my local guy to get it touched-up thats about the only solution i can think of right now.This sucks...
