6spd..5 weeks old...blown tranny..wtf!

So I got my 6spd coupe February 10. All options 'cept Navi. Last month it began to grind going into third gear. It was kinda random, but at the 3750 maintenance they said it's fine. It got really bad last week so I took it in friday morn, and they called and said the transmission is "broke". I'm like.."broke"...what does that mean? Service guy didnt know what was wrong, just it was broke...and they called Infiniti and are waiting on what to do. I called him today and they say they're gonna replace the transmission. But since they didnt take the old one apart, they dont know what happened, they just ship it back to Infiniti. Granted warranty covers all this, but how the hell does a transmission break with just 4000 miles on it. Should I call infiniti customer relations and complain...am I entitled to ask/demand something? This is really disconcerting/annoying. Plus I'm in an old I-30 for a week, as the new tranny wont arrive till thurs, and that car's no fun.

It might have just had some defective parts in it. It happens. It sounds like they're going to fix it for you, so that's good. In the meantime, you're in a free loaner, also good. It may not be as much fun as your G35, but it's not a bad car to be stuck in for a week. I don't know if you'd be able to find out what actually went wrong with the original tranny, Infiniti may not even tell the dealership. As far as what you're entitled to, I believe you're already receiving it. Stuff happens, and it looks like they're doing their best to get you back into your car with a minimum of inconvenience.

i think i remeber some one else posting a similer post and they they said somthing to the effect that they are going to replace the transmision then in the near future there is going to be new corrected tranmision. I guess there is a defect in the current one. Hope that helps maybe try a search. The guy said he lost 3 transmisions already.

Re: 6spd..5 weeks old...blown tranny..wtf!

Is this a new transmission from Infiniti? Has it been used in other production cars? It's the same one as the 350Z, but is it a first year model?

That sucks for your car. Mine hasn't been built yet. Hopefully they will find something out when the transmission is sent back.

I don't think calling customer relations will do anything for you unless there is a rash of failures. If this happens, they will probably issue a recall.

Who has the most miles on their 6MT?

Re: 6spd..5 weeks old...blown tranny..wtf!

This is a brand new 6spd from Nissan, same one as in the 350Z, and i've heard that some Z people have had problems with it, where 6MT broke then replaced under warranty
This 3rd gear thing seems common, i've seen at least 10 people complain about grinding in 3rd gear. Well we have a 60,000 mile warranty, thank God for that.

Re: 6spd..5 weeks old...blown tranny..wtf!

That was me who posted earlier about being on my third tranny and a fix coming out end of april. Now I know of four people with a 6sp having the same problem. Again, makes me wonder if there will be a recall. My new tranny has 400 miles on it, so I figure it will go in about 1000-1500 more.

My 6MT recently has been more notchy. Im just a little over 3000 mi. Im not having too much of a problem yet, It's gonna go into service this week hopefully and I will have them double check everything. If they have to replace my tranny. They better give me a FX45 to play with hahaha.. =P

Tommy,

do you push the clutch all the way to the floor when you shift? If you don't, try doing that for a week and see how that works out for you.

Re: 6spd..5 weeks old...blown tranny..wtf!

Now it's locking me out of 6th sometimes...guess I'll have to take her in soon...

Does anyone know when the 'fix' is coming...? I'd rather wait so I don't have to take it in twice....thanx.
