Will NEVER buy from Infiniti again.
Will NEVER buy from Infiniti again.
Even though the dealership recognizes a problem with grinding form 4th to 6th, and cant duplicate it from 5th to 6th (bullshit it does it every day on my commute to work) they will not replace the manual trans in my car. I have over 70 cases from this site alone with people that have the same problem skipping gears and they have gotten serviced with no problems.
So now, I can try to sell the car and try to explain to the buyer why your not allowed to skip gears or why the trans grinds hoping they wont care and buy it. Or, live with it and when it really does take a [censored] hope that Inf will still service it after all the yelling I did at them.
I have never had such bad service from a car company in my life. If I wanted an incompetent dealer or wanted to be called a liar I would have bought a domestic piece of [censored]. Instead, I'm stuck with a sports car that grids gears as you shift it.
I don't know who the tech is in California that says the car cant skip gears (4th to 6th.. come on we all know that's fine. Its not like going from 2nd to 6th and putting excessive load on the trans) but he needs to read or revise the owners manual (which says nothing about this cars trans being any differ than any other manual trans out there). They also need to read all the other 6MT owner posts who have had the same problem as me but have gotten serviced.
So now, I get to file a claim with the Better Business Bureau in hopes that will get the car serviced like it should be. Just like anything else in this country... quick to take your money but when you need help later you can kiss their ***.

Re: Will NEVER buy from Infiniti again.
Sorry to hear about your issue(s). I agree that service at the different dealerships are hit or miss and that ICA can be less than helpful (understatement).
If it is truly Infiniti's official position that one can't skip gears, what about downshifting? This is a sports coupe isn't it? Ask the tech in cali whether you have to downshift one gear at a time or if it's OK to go 2 or 3 gears down? When they tested this car on the track, were their test drivers told not to skip any gears? Does it make any sense whatsoever to accelerate up to 65 mph in 3rd gear up to your cruising speed, and then go into 4th and 5th before 6th with no further acceleration?
What a crock! I'm not one to advocate frivolous lawsuits but certain situations call for them and this one is arguably not frivolous. If ICA's official position is that one cannot skip gears, then the advertisements that it is a 6MT are false/misleading. A better description would be that it is a SMT (or some derivation of Sequential Manual Transmission.) A true MT in my mind and hopefully in everyone else's mind comes with a clutch actuated by the driver, where any of the forward gears can be engaged at any time (regardless of possible damage from redlining etc.)

Re: Will NEVER buy from Infiniti again.
Exactly my point to them over the phone. I was not allowed to call their tech line because, I quote "your a consumer not a dealer or employee. All conversations go from them to us to you as the consumer." So who knows if this Bruce tech guy in CA even exists. What a hassle
