Re: Is performance wheel package really necessary

I didn't get the wheels package because I hated the fake-looking titanium trim on the console. I think the dash looks much better all black. If I could have gotten the performance wheels package without the silver trim, I probably would have gotten it just for the LSD.

Re: Is performance wheel package really necessary

i wish i had gotten the performance wheel package. the only reason i didn't is because of what was in stock and the good deal i got. the all seasons on the stock 17's suck. i live in FL with mad rain lately and they are horrible. they are the potenza re292 i think.

Funny you mention that. I think they actually perform well in the rain. We've been getting a lot of t-storms lately and have had nothing but great control in the car. Granted my tires are fairly new since I just bought the car but still no problems in the rain. Thats what makes me think I shouldn't have much of a problem having them through the winter and then picking up some new wheels and tires just for the summer months.

Re: Is performance wheel package really necessary

For me the performance wheel pkg was a no-brainer. You get over $5000 in options for $900. And if you want the 17" rims for winter driving, you can get them off ebay cheap (or get a winter car).

The titanium trim is $5000. Titanium is veeery expensive.

Re: Is performance wheel package really necessary

I got my car in Sept 03, and thought I'd just use the all-seasons through the winter, but after driving in the first snow, I realized I needed snow tires. I was slipping pulling away from every stop light (and I owned a RWD infiniti M30 for 7 years before this with AS tires...not a problem).

I regret not getting the OEM 18s, since I had to spring for the snow tires anyway.

Now I'm looking for 19s b/c the 17's are just too small...oh well.

Re: Is performance wheel package really necessary

I haven't had any problems at all driving in the snow on the stock 17" Goodyear all-seasons. We don't get a lot of snow in the DC area, though. If I lived farther north, it might be a different story. I agree that the 17" wheels look way too small in the wheel wells. When these tires wear out, I'm going to get 18" or 19" BBS RGR's or RS-GT's. I haven't decided on which yet. Then I'll put snow tires on the stock 17's.

Re: Is performance wheel package really necessary

Yeah, I'm thinking what I may do is keep my 17's and the all-season's. They seem to handle great in the rain and lets see for the winter.

I'm really thinking once the Stock 19's come out for the 05 G35, that the 18's are going to lose some of its value in price. That would be the best time to pick up a cheap pair of stockers.
