hood hinge replacement - how to do it?

Hey All:
I just purchased a new hood hinge (passenger side) for my '03 coupe. Does anyone know how to replace it? Is the fender supposed to be removed?

Thanks

My mechanic recently replaced my passenger side hood hinge. He had to loosen the fender but not completely take it off just to get to the bolts behind it. He didnt want to completely take it off because he said he would have to reallign it.

Thanks - do you know at what points he removed the bolts on the fender to loosen it?

Also, did you have the hinge painted, or left it unpainted?

I think he had to pretty much remove every bolt, he took off the passenger side headlight, he took off the battery cover and that trim right below the windshield. Im not sure exactly but I think you need to take them all off to get clearance to some bolts. He figured it out as he went along, wasn't that complicated. I just left the hinge unpainted, doesn't really show with that little cover on it.

Do you mind me asking - what did your mechanic charge you for this job?

If anyone else has a write-up or any other tips they can add, that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I took my fenders off to do it, I did not want to risk scratching the fender.

Would you be able to tell me how to take off the fender in a few lines if possible? I understand that you need to remove the front bumper and front headlamp?

Or maybe the FSM outlines this?

Take the bumper off, fender liner, headlight, you need to pull down the front of the side skirt and there are 2 bolts down there, 1 in the door jam, 2 where the bumper attaches, and like 6 up top.

Also, did you paint your hinge? If not - did you run into any rusting issues with the hinge? The parts guy told me that my hinge was going to rust, but the metal looks like the type that is treated against rust....
