Be glad you have the G

Also, be glad you came here..the best reason to come to this site besides helping those who vent here have a better day is to find out that you can add all the possible n/a HP by not touching the exhaust and spending around 750 total for 25 or so HP. Read for a few MONTHS before spending a dime and you will calm down, realize what is best for the car and for you and then make rational and reasonable cost effective decisions.

If you want an Injen intake mine is for sale and is cheap but it wont add much power if any - but the car sounded like a Cobra for 5 minutes every morning before it warmed up.

PS the Z tube is free if you modify your current intake tube to become the Z tube...

Re: no budget no mods

I can understand your want to do awesome performance-boosting and aesthetic mods on your already killer G. The concept of instant gratification in today's society drives us to need/want things NOW whether we have the means to pay for it or not. Look at the millions of people/families claiming for bankruptcy in the last couple years and the overwhelming credit card debt that exists in this day and age. I, too, have many wants and "needs"......

At 18, I also had wants and needs...different wants/needs but did have them. When you are older, you will realize that your wants and needs at 18 yo will seem trivial compared to what societal pressures you will face when older.

G35 at 18? Thank your parents EVERYDAY for getting you this car (I'm assuming you didn't get the loan approved by yourself if you "have no money for mods" huh?)

Get a part time job and help pay for the insurance, gas and car payments (which I also assume you're not paying for since you have "no money for mods").

Talk about wishing.....when I was 18, I was wishing/begging for a new $16K Honda CRX much less a $35K car. Well, I ended up going to college and using the good ole Seattle Metro public transportation system! Ummmm......paying for college (and my future) vs. paying for a car...what to choose, what to choose..........

Save your money that you earn mowing lawns, put it into the stock market NOW while its performing crappy and in a couple years when it goes BULL again, you'll have enough money for your mods ( or at least to help pay for your college tuition).

There's money to be made everywhere you look....if you want something bad enough, find a way to make the money to get it. Just don't expect for the money to appear out of thin air or to come out of your father's wallet or credit card.

As a physician, when I counsel high school seniors about college and financial aid, we talk about money. "What would you do if I gave you $20, 000?" I ask. Most seniors will say, buy a car, buy some stereo stuff, go on a trip..... ONLY a couple students (at most) out of a bunch will respond that they would help their parents pay for THEIR college, save or invest the money, save for a house or donate a portion of it to charity. I try to educate them that there is more to money than a car that will only depreciate over time, stereo stuff that will become obsolete over a year, and a trip that will be for only a week as opposed to investing money in their futures (college, savings, investing, real estate, philanthropy, etc). We also discuss the principal of compounding...it really opens some ( but not all) eyes....

Its good to wish though.........everyone does it. Just always remember to not take things for granted. 18yo's in Somalia are trying to find ways of getting food and water for their families much less attending school, living in houses with running water, eating 3 meals a day and certainly not driving around a G35.

(Off my soapbox....)

Re: no budget no mods

Can an 18 year old really tell the difference between a 280 bhp car and a 300-ish bhp car? The difference is subtile at best, so be happy with what you have because you're not really missing anything.

Having said that, you're not really going to keep those stock wheels now are you?

The above statements are only my take on the issue. If you disagree with anything I typed then you are 100% right!

Re: no budget no mods

Do not add anymore power to this car. I can't possibly list all the stupid things I did with the 115 HP 83 Celica I raced around in when I was 18. 280HP is too much power for someone so young. If I had this much power back then, I'd probably be in traction in a hospital somewhere or dead. My first kid will have a used Geo Metro. He can supe that up all he wants. Or if I get him a G, I will render 4 of the cylinders useless. That should have a mean exhaust note too. =P

Re: no budget no mods

The reason why most of these guys on the forum have alot of mods is cuz they all have jobs and careers unlike us. I'm 18 too. My parents pay for the car, but i pay for whatever mods i do to it. If you dont have the money to mod, then just get a job...or instead of complaining, why not just be happy that your parents got you the car in the first place. If you wanted to be able to buy cheap mods, then you shouldve gotten a civic or something. If you have some sort of allowance from your parents, then learn to save up.

Hey bro i empathize with you. im 18 as well, and i need money too! maybe i would have some if i didnt have to pay $40 for gas every 4 days. it pisses me off. other than that, i am very thankful i have the car though. i got cheap mods too lol : clear corners and eibach springs. lol i been planning on getting a z-tube and stillen air box for like 2 months now lol. i dunno where the hell my money goes???...i do have a job as a bank teller though, but it never seems like i can save a dime.
