Hi,

I bought my 03 6mt coupe about 3 years ago with absolutely no problem at 60k. I just hit 103k and I feel like its harder to put it into 2nd gear. sometimes it feels like its grinding to get in gear and its starting to grind putting it into 5th.

has anyone ever experienced this problem before? will i need a new transimission and how much does that ususally cost in cdn $?

When was the last time the transmission fluid was changed? I would start there first before buying a new transmission. Use good quality synthetic fluid. I had a grind on my 6spd going into 2nd gear; done 80000kms on the original fluid. Switched to Redline MT90, the shifts are now silky smooth.

thanks for the tip. ill look into first, however i thought you never changed transmission fluid? is that wrong or is that only when u experience gear issues?

also, is this not a sign the transmission is beginning to show problems as well?

You've never changed your transmission fluid after 100K miles? You'd better get on that ASAP!! Go to a Nissan dealer and buy the necessary quantity of their manual transmission fluid and swap it out.

I like to change mine every 30K miles at the very most. It's cheap insurance for one of the most expensive components of your car and is real easy to do.

You should also try to change your fluid in the clutch as well and also the brakes if they've never been done.

I STRONGLY AGREE...don't skimp when it comes to ANY fluids in your G

I'm pretty sure he's talking in Kilometers, not miles.

I also forgot to mention that you definitely will want to change out the fluid in your differential. I recommend Amsoil full synthetic as a replacement for that. If the tranny fluid has never been changed, then you can bet your a$$ that the diff. fluid hasn't been either.

I have an 04 coupe and the 5th gear grinds sometimes. I am going to change the manual transmission fluid. For the clutch fluid is the syringe best to do it with?

im the farthest thing from a mechanic but i can do a oil change

is it just as simple? should i just bring it to any mechanic? if there are any video tutorials lurking around a link would be great. im gonna check youtube for any vids...

Start with the syringe to siphon out all the old fluid from the reservoir. Then wipe the sludge from the bottom of the container. Refill with clean fluid and flush the remaining fluid in the system.

I just got off the phone with infinity and these are the prices they quoted me:

to change:
differential oil - $79.95
Transmission oil - $109.95
bleed brakes - $84.95

the infiniti rep said there is no option to change clutch fluid. is there another term they use so i can get a price?
