seatbelt position problem

I am wondering if anyone else has this problem. No matter how I position the drivers seat, I cannot get it to where the seatbelt does not rest right on my neck. I have moved the seat back, forward, up, down, tilted back and forward and nothing makes a difference. If I sit in the front passenger seat, the belt is right where it should be. When I look straight down at the instrument panel/steering wheel, I feel like I am about 1/2 inch too far to the left. I am only 5'11 so I do not think it is my size/ height that could be the problem. I am at my wits end, b/c I cannot enjoy driving it b/c I am constantly pulling the belt off my neck.

Re: seatbelt position problem

There are seat belt adjusters that are sold at most auto parts stores (e.g. Pep Boys, AutoZone, Kragen). It clips near the buckle and binds the shoulder segment of the seatbelt to the hip segment so that the belts are on top of one another for about two inches. You can try this yourself to see if there is enough adjustment to make the seatbelt comfortable. I believe it only comes in black. The cost is approximately $3.99.

I have the same problem and I am 5' 7". I usually just pull my shirt over the belt and the problem goes away.

Same problem here too. I've noticed also that the steering wheel doesn't tilt as low as my sedan did. Between that and the seatbelt i'm just not feeling that comfortable yet. The car is still money though!

Re: seatbelt position problem

Well I am glad to know that I am not crazy I've tried pulling my shirt over the belt to help, but i have found that it doesn't work too well when wearing a t-shirt. The shirt eventually slides back out from under it. Collared shirts work the best (too bad i was wearing one when I first test drove it). Going to have to try the seat belt adjuster next I suppose.

Re: seatbelt position problem

Each seatbelt next to the console is connected to a flat metal bar approx. 6 - 8 inched long. Sit in the seat and bend it toward you waist. It is fairly difficult to bend, but will not hurt anything... I am 5' 8" and after I bent mine, I no longer have the belt rubbing my neck problems.

Re: seatbelt position problem

I am 5' 6" and don't seem to have this problem, instead the plastic clip seems to rest on the top of the seat and makes an indentation. I really don't like the seat belts on this car and some of my passengars even don't bother because they are such a pain & I can't really blame them.

Re: seatbelt position problem

the the metal bar that connects to the buckle is too long.. it needs to be cut short a couple inches.. i don't know why they made it so high.. all the other cars i've driven has it nice and low so it doesn't rub on your neck

Re: seatbelt position problem

I have the same problem. But the height of the receiver causes me most concern. The lap belt is supposed to catch you on the hips, mine's a bit high. BUT!!! if you raise the seat to it's highest height, the receiver hits on the hip like it should. That's why the metal part is so long. Otherwise, I considered asking the dealership if there was a shorter one for those who arent so big.

Re: seatbelt position problem

IIRC someone had recommended a fix by replacing the driver's side receiver with the passenger side receiver, as the latter is shorter. A quick check in the car should confirm this.
