Re: A NEW ENGINE

of course i am trying to get it covered by the warranty, i was just curious to know how much the msrp of the engine is. There is no shot in hell that i will lay out a dime for the parts or labor. It is a factory defect on infiniti's part and I am not going to lose out from it. If they give me a hard time, I'll take em to the man with the hammer.

Re: A NEW ENGINE

For about $4000 you can build a new motor with forged internals... barring you did no damage to the bottom end.

Re: A NEW ENGINE

A little off-topic, but still related....

A female co-worker was driving her boyfriend's manual 328i yesterday because he was drunk, and he was telling her to drive more aggressively and told her to downshift from 5th to 3rd while they were doing 75 so she could pass some cars. She doesn't have much experience w/ a stick so she missed the shift and put it in 1st gear!!

The car made all sorts of awful noises and it won't start any more. I'm sure that engine briefly shot up to 12,000 rpm or more. Damn!!!!

Re: A NEW ENGINE

Go to a different Infiniti dealer. They shouldn't have just said no like that Your car should be on warranty and such on what you have said about the oil change and everything.

Anyways, since its blown..why not build a faster engine or look for a gtr v-spec/v-spec ii engine if thats possible? I think that would be a good idea to think about....

Re: A NEW ENGINE

I was at Circle today having my 15,000 mile service done, and I saw about 5 of the service people pushing a DG 6mt into the shop area when I dropped my car off.......
Is that your ride?

I can't believe they will not honor the warranty.......They pretty much jump through hoops for me when ever I had any problems with my I35 or the coupe......

Did you speak with Don, the service Mgr?

Re: A NEW ENGINE

I just use a small notepad in my car to remind me when to do oil changes.

Hey.. yep that is my ride you saw. what a coincidence. I pushed it right up to where the door of the service center is and left my keys under the garbage can. I spoke to Don. He was cool, but there was another service manger that gave me an attitude. Im sick of this whole thing.

Re: A NEW ENGINE

Regardless you should learn to take care of your G like a child. You can get a new engine for about 2500-3000.

Re: A NEW ENGINE

Go to junk/salvage yard and looks for a busted 350Z with a good engine and decent miles and I am told you can get the engine for dirty cheap or what not. Or you can call motorex and for 5k with installation get a GTS-T engine with upgrades.

Re: A NEW ENGINE

I wasn't sure if anyone was going to need it but there is a totalled 350z here in Atlanta, Georgia. 10k miles and the guy at the salvage yard said he would sell the engine for between $2600 to $3000. He is looking to install a point to point wireless system and mentioned that he would work out a trade or something else if it could be done. If you want the info, then let me know.

Re: A NEW ENGINE

Here's a little warranty info. that most people don't know. I'm an AMSOIL dealer and we're always getting challenges to our extended drain recommendations. The manufacturers are always trying to weasel out of covering their defects by blaming the end user.

First, the dealer must prove that you caused the engine failure. In your case, they must directly show that the oil failed to provide adequate lubrication. The best way to do this is through oil analysis. You can have that done for about $15 to $25. If they've already drained the oil and don't have a sample to analyze, they can't prove anything.

Second, ask them to notify you in writing that they are denying your warranty based on oil failure. 90% of the time, they won't provide a denial in writing because it becomes admissible in a court. Generally, the whole thing stops there. I've had a number of customers that asked for a denial in writing and were told that the item would be covered under warranty.

Third, people have far more rights than they realize and are intimidated by the dealers. Don't be. You have a written warranty and are in the driver's seat. Do a search on the web for "Moss-Magnuson". The Moss-Magnuson act outlines your rights.

Finally, if the oil did fail you are on the hook--unless the oil carries a warranty. AMSOIL warranties its oils. I'm not sure about other brands but it’s worth checking into if the oil was the cause.

Good luck and stand your ground.

Re: A NEW ENGINE

there is no way this is the whole story,

unless he sat at redline for a month with no oil in the car, the motor would not blo at 11k miles

i leased a chevy truck and returned to the dealer with 38000 miles on it, with the original factory oil!!!
