Re: A NEW ENGINE

I want to say I heard $6,000, but I doubt that includes labor.

Why did you drive the car for 11K without changing the oil??? Even if you didn't change the oil for 11,000 I don't think the engine should "blow," What exactly happened, did the block crack or something or what?

If you did have your oil changed, who changed it? My friend worked at a jiffy lube and in the year he worked there it happend twice where a worker forget to put the cap back on after draining the oil so all the new oil just ran out and ruined the engine (jiffy lube payed for the new engines). Also, if you did change it and the dealer is claming you never did make sure you see the oil that was left in the engine (if there is any). It should be less like liquid and more like puddy (please correct me if I'm wrong).

Re: A NEW ENGINE

I have a 'spare' VQ35 sitting in a shop waiting on new pistons and rods. I bought it lightly used out of a totalled '03 sedan. I'm not one to talk money, but I got it much lower then $6,000. Actually, I got a G35 5 a/t tranny and VQ35 for much less then $6,000. Which reminds me, I have a 6mt so if anyone needs a spare 5at let me know....

Re: A NEW ENGINE

Lets here the real story - I cant believe you would buy a $35,000+ car and not change the oil.

I think there is something deeper than that. 11k miles does not make sense at all. The only thing that could explain it is a slow leak. But you think the guy would have noticed a mess in his driveway.

Re: A NEW ENGINE

You said you changed it at 4000K. Was it you or the dealership that changed the oil. I can't believe the dealer is blatantly denying to warrant your engine.

Re: A NEW ENGINE

Yep i changed it @ 4000 at Kings Infiniti in Brooklyn. Circle Infiniti (the dealer where my car was towed to service) told me that they do not want to cover it under the warranty.

They Do Not Want To Cover It!!!! Why do they care? It would come out of Infiniti's pocket. You also have a service record that says you did change your oil, call infiniti call another dealer, somebody call someone! I have a feeling we are not getting the whole story here.... since you are already asking for the price of a new engine rather then trying to get a warranty replacement.

Re: A NEW ENGINE

I've read several times that, with oil and engines nowadays, people may never change their oil, and probably won't have any problems within the first 30K miles. They may feel that, if they aren't keeping it forever, why worry about the shortened engine life after they sell it.

On the other hand, I've changed my oil at 1600, 4500, and 7400. But I plan to keep it for considerably longer than 36K miles.

Re: A NEW ENGINE

murray you are giving very little information for people to help you here, if this is really true that is.

assuming it is, simply have it towed to another infiniti dealer. every dealer is different and will give you a different answer. point out to them the records showing infiniti did the oil change itself. remember, you warranty is with infiniti not any particular infiniti dealer. infiniti dealers are independantly owned and basically just have a contract with infiniti making them an authorized service location.

consuming 1qt per 3K miles would have left you 2qts low out of 5qts total. this is bad, very bad, but should not have cost you an engine unless those were very hard miles. if you were consuming at a greater rate, then yes.

from what you've said, there was approx 7k miles on the oil. most car makers recommend 7k changes assuming normal miles, so if that is what is in your owners manual, bring it with them and point that out to them along with receipt from 4k change. naturally i would never go 7k miles between changes, not even 5k miles to tell you the truth.

oil low gauge is more an after the fact issue with most cars, by the time its on most likely damage has already occurred. i don't know why car makers do this, but they do. toyota is a bit different, theirs is very very sensitive (probably overly so).
