No, no.... I'm not saying that. I'm saying if you buy a slightly less used long block from a salvage yard, it will be cheaper to have that put in your car. Around $3500 for the swap. It's easier and less time consuming for the mechanic therefore less expensive.

If you have your motor rebuilt, it will last longer(0 miles on a rebuilt motor) but it will take longer and is more labor, therefore more expensive.
Your long block that is currently in the car is not damaged, the piston rings are just a poor design from the factory and need to be replaced. When replacing the rings in a motor you have to rebuild the motor.

Gotcha...but for the individuals who would want to do the rebuild themselves, the nippon rings are only about $40. I understand now what you were saying that it your going that deep into dismantling the engine...might as well replace the block too with lesser or zero mileage.

The thing is...how would you know if the block from the salvage yard didn't have the OC issue as well or is prone to get the OC, which in replacing just the rings wouldn't be a bad idea.

Salvage yard Engine: You would aim for a low mileage engine and pray for the best. LOL! Odds are, a long block with say 49k miles on it wouldn't have a OC issue yet. Unfortunately, you don't know for sure. It is by far better to rebuilt. Just depends on your finances.

Some people need to just stop consuming so much oil and need ti fixed faster and cheaper so the salvage motor would be the best idea for them.

Personally I would rebuild myself.

I am speaking to someone from

Consumer Relations Representative
Nissan Canada Inc.

...trying to leave some paper trail for when I go for the oil consumption test and they see that i need the new engine, that she is conserdering to make a case file or a goodwill review of my claim since im only 5,ooo km out of warranty. the fact that these dealers need you to drive about 4,000 kms and make repeats visits at the certain intervals before they can actually determine the cause of failure or to recognize the problem, is good grounds for me to say that it took MYSELF 5,000 kms before i realised I had a major problem as such. In my eyes. They need to look into this case or something if they have any respect or desire to keep customers.. I own 2 Infinitis and i'm on the edge to never recommend one of these "100,000" km lasting pieces of crap if they cant stand up for their own mistakes.. god.. my luck is so sh*t..

I hope you get somewhere with it... I wish they would recall these for the OC problem. I really don't want to have to pay for it but I know Nissan won't do anything about it.

im loosing crazy amoutn of oil...
about 4 quart every 3000 KM.. not miles.. KMS!!

its insane and I put so much work into the look and body of this car you guys wont beleive .. and now this?

any more thoughts guys?

Canadian warranty is to 160,000kms, 100,000 MILES.

You're not over kms, you're out of time. The car is almost 6 years old now.

I feel your pain man. My car burns about 3 qts of oil ever 1k miles and Infinti has denied replacement of the longblock because of my exhaust system. To be honest those people at Nissan/Infiniti consumer affairs are helpless. They say one thing and do another thing. I would consider hiring a lawyer and letting them talk to corporate Nissan and handle the situation. From my experience, Infiniti has one of the worst customer services ever and they wont listen to ordinary people like you and me, believe me i have tried. Goodluck with everything!

this is my daily driver so i have no choice. I always have an extra 2 qts of oil in the trunk all the time. Yes, the car loses a lot of power. After a fresh oil change the car runs great until the oil level drops, then the car feels sluggish and dead.

Hearing more and more non-revup VQ's with this. Wow....

OEM piston skirts are too short, oem ring pack design sux, main bearings are weak-sauce with lack of lead.

Non-oem build is the best way. My .02

-edit-
If your heads are ok, you only need a shortblock not a longblock.

Your car is out of warranty now. There is no reason to return to the dealer from now on. Find a new mechanic.
