Question How should I feel about owning a 2004 6MT Coupe?

I've been pondering lately about the fact that I purchased my 2004 coupe this past July with 37,000 miles on it.

It's 5 years old already, soon to be 6. I bought it for $17,000 flat but now I'm thinking I might not want a 6 year old car come next summer and if I do plan to sell it, what are the chances that I find someone to buy a 6-7 year old car with 55k-65k miles for what I want to get for it.

I mean, obviously if I could have afforded to buy a newer one I would have.. but 17k was the absolute most I was willing to spend and I didn't want anything with high miles, so that's why I settled on my purchase.

And with everyone else now having mostly 05s and up.. I feel as if I'm not in the same game.

Is it even worth me modding it?

What do you guys think? How should I feel about this recent purchase?

If you already have second thoughts about it, sell the car. I'm not exactly sure what's wrong with having a six year old car, I have an 05 which is only a year newer, and my car still looks and runs like a champ. Just gotta take care of it.

But in your case, either sell it and get something that'll make you happy or don't do any further modifications and just use it as a daily driver. No need throwing good money after bad.

My main concern is... is it worth to own this particular car for the long run. I own it outright so when I go to sell it.. what I make is what I make..

I'm a finances type a guy and I like to put a lot of thought into possible financial outcomes.. meaning that the only way I can justify modding my car is to assure myself that i'll I wont come out with empty pockets 2 years down the road.

I would be perfectly happy if I modded it and got $15,000 with roughly 65k miles on it 2 years from now.

I'll probably have to part-out .

The only financial outcome when it comes to cars and modding is almost a total loss. If you look at it that way it's pretty easy to see that this is a hobby not an investment. There is zero return, but if it gives you enjoyment without sacrificing other aspects of your finances, then why not? Some people buy clothes, other people buy home theater tech, etc.

But in two years your car is going to be worth somewhere in the low teens, and people don't like buying modded cars. If you are looking at it from a purely financial standpoint, sell the car now and spend $5k on a used Civic and drive that until the wheels fall off. In that context, it's the only option that makes sense.

Well FRY TWO if you're a financial type of guy then you definitely must know that purchasing a car is obviously not like real estate you Will loose money regardless what type of new car wether its a Ferrari or a Civic. I own a 04' and I'm really happy with it got brembos, navi etc. I've taken very good care of my car and I most def do not feel ashamed of driving a 6yrs.old car after all its a G35 damn it . I also think that you should be happy with your purchase I mean how many people can say they own their G not many, But nothing I say or anybody else says is going to persuade you into something ultimatley that you Do/Don't want IMO keep it mod it save some money in car payments and Happy Modding

Oh I know that purchasing a car is a necessity/want and holds very little long time financial progression; however I feel that it is essential to purchase and sell particular vehicles at the appropriate times in order to achieve the least possible financial lost.

I definitely love it, and I'll definitely wait a year or so to sell it..

and hell... as long as I have a few dollars to my name.. i'll be modding it. it's just the nature of the beast!

Well you should first mod it then start saving up some money. When you save up enough money to sell the car and add the cash and upgrade to like a newer. You should be thankful to be driving what you have now some people drive beat up civics and don't complain. Not like theres a big difference between 2004 and 2005 besides rev up so don't sweat it.

There just no real financial plus to it. You've got a really nice car. Just mod it, enjoy it, keep it for a good long time, and when the time comes to unload it you'll get what you can for it, but your not really going to recoup any significant part of your investment. I've got an 04 sedan. I paid 17,000 for it. I'll probably have it for four or five years. I will have put about an extra $7,000 in mods on it. Four or five years from now, if it still rides ok, and doesn't look bad, and it's got maybe a little over 100,000 miles on it, maybe I'll find someone who'll give me eight or nine thousand for it? Like the man said to mod this car like this is a hobby or an extravagance really. . . other wise buy a vanilla Civic or Camry and run it into the ground. I've always been kind of an eccentric crazy hobbies person, and somewhat car oriented. I recently came in to some money. So here you go. This is something I chose to do for my personal enjoyment and satisfaction.

So....you own an '04 G35 luxury coupe with low mileage, all you need to do is take care of it. How many people know the difference between the years, not many unless you're a member of DRIVER. A '03 looks just as good as a '07 if you've taken care of it....that's the key! Just enjoy your G and have fun driving, I do every day.

Not everything's about dollar signs man... I rationalize the massive amounts of money I've been spending on my car recently by thinking about how much more fun I'm having driving it!
I used to drive a busted-*** 89 accord with 290K miles on it that'd been in 7 or 8 accidents before because it made "financial sense"... I say if you've got the money do it. You only live once

You also have to consider the transaction costs involved in buying/selling your car...
Especially if you're financed. I have to pay like 8.5% sales tax when I buy a car in WA... not getting rid of mine any time soon!
