Front Brake Pads
Front Brake Pads
Anyone know of any good front brake pads i can purchase. I bought some aftermarket ceramic ones awhile back and they were good for reducing the brake dust but freakin always skreeches when i use it.
Re: Front Brake Pads
thats the problem with aftermarket crap.......i cant bear the screeching noise, i'd much rather deal with brake dust then have to pull up in my G to the light schreeching like im driving a van

Re: Front Brake Pads
I guess the general consensus among us here would tell you to go with either Hawk HPS pads or EBC green stuff pads Which are both available through www.tirerack.com. Both have been highly recommended by many. Do a seach on this topic, you'll find many treads on this very subject. I personally replaced my fronts last week with the EBC greenstuff pads and they perform great. Less brake dust is certainly a plus.

Re: Front Brake Pads
i have the satisfied pro ceramics on my car. they were quit @ first then they started to make noise after a few months on and off. then they were getting worse as time went by. i mentioned it to my dealer and they changed the shims on the pads and gave me new pads for the rear and now there is no noise at all.
Re: Front Brake Pads
Hopefully someone will do some scientific and accurate [to the foot] [with pad /rotor temperature sensors]* braking distance test with a few aftermarkets pads to delineate the downsides if any.
A common occurance is to change front pads, then throw the temperature balance off, so that the rears overheat.
Need some 30 foot, 60,80 and 100 mph multi stop tests in Summer heat and 40F Cold........Cost a lot to rig up 3 cars with different pads/rotors experts test equipment.
When Michigan State Patrol tested 10 brands of pads on 3 CrownVics it took a week, 10 people and cost $20,000. The results were not good for any after market including Hawk [but the were near the top in second rate ranking. The Ford factory pads worked best over all as did the GM Lumina and Chrysler Concorde..Police versions.
If stopping distances are the criteria you usually can't beat factory.........they have the money to test every compound on Earth a 100 pair sample is just a phone call away, as every aftermarket manufacturer would give their Right appendage for a factory order.
People don't realize that every compound cost Nissan the same price.........no one makes gold or platnium pads......the raw materials all cost the same give or take a few pennies
