Trans Fluid Changed - Marginal Diff So Far
Hey,
So I took my car in today for its 11,250 mile service and as a lot of you know, we all agreed it was a good idea to get you transmission fluid changed (in the 6MT) every 12,000 miles or so. The service manager asked me why and I told him I had my reasons, lol.
Anyways, they changed the tranny fluid for a price of $89.95 which I thought was pretty reasonable, and of course I did the routine oil & filter change (don't wanna end up like murray from the "A NEW ENGINE" thread, now do we). On the drive home, I didn't really notice much of a difference in shifting. The gearbox was still as notchy as it used to be from what I can tell. The 2-3 shift seemed a bit smoother and the 1-2 shift required the same effort as normal if not a tad easier. I'm going to take another drive tonight (no idea where I'm gonna go yet) and evaluate the shifting again. Don't quote me on this but so far things feel just a tad smoother, but the difference is marginal. I'll post an update on the shifting after I take that other drive tonight.
Thanks,

Re: Trans Fluid Changed - Marginal Diff So Far
I just picked up my coupe about 2 hours ago with 7760 miles on it and I had the oil, tranny and diffy fluids changed. The bill was $216.00! Not really sure if that's a good price, but I did make sure that they drained the tranny, flushed it with one type of fluid, then added the manufacturers tranny fluid. This was absolutely not a tranny drain and refill procedure - GOOD!
My service advisor also asked why I wanted to change the fluids so early. My response was that I wanted to keep the car in good shape well past the manufacturers warranty. I also told him that anytime there are new gears working together, there is going to be "chatter" or particles of metal where I don't want them. I got the same questioning at 1000 miles when I did the first oil change.
Unfortunately I haven't notice anything different regarding shifting, but at least I have the peace of mind that all of the burrs and metal shavings are out of the system (for the time being anyway).
The above statements are only my take on the issue. If you disagree with anything I typed then you are 100% right!

Yeah, I completely agree. At the very least it was still worth it to get all the metal shavings and crap out and replaced with new fluid.
I just wanted to make a post of my tranny fluid change to share my experience with the other 6MT owners who might be interested.

MrE: did you get it done at Ramsey Infiniti? I had it done there at 9500 miles and the labor alone was $90. I think the total was about $135. It seemed excessive to me at the time...
