2004 Navi SUCKS!

I just bought a 2004 g35 with Navi and I have to say the navigation system sucks. The navi has the most updated software but it is slow and a pain in the A$$. I have a piece of mind to go back to sticking my garmin back to my windshield. Anybody have any other ideas of feedback?

fact: a $200 aftermarket Garmin is better then a $2000 stock navi.

Better then nothing is what I say, plus having a bypass switch helps for programming on the go.

But it looks hella tight.

The bypass switch so that you can operate the nav when you're car is in motion.

Do a search for Nav mod or hack or something like that. It's a DIY with pictures and everything.

I can definitely see the point of having a requirement for the car to be stationary before typing in an address in the Nav system(at least if the driver him/herself is going to be doing the entering of the address).... after all, without touchscreen, it takes quite a bit of effort, attention, and time to enter an address into the thing. The thing that really pisses me off is how you can only select addresses from your address book if they are on the first page of addresses that you have saved. I see no reason why you shouldn't be able to scroll down past the first screen while you are moving and select one of your other preexisting destinations from farther down in the list. Retarded!

I might install a bypass in my car for that reason alone sometime soon.

The GPS in 03-06 G35s is Disc Operated, so yea it might be a bit slow, but nothing I would call Slow and pain in the ***. Maybe your disc is dirty, or the DVD reader is having to contently re-read the disc. I have had no issues with it.

^+1, mine has now problems, an people always compliment on how it looks. But i have to say, as far as actual navigation, a garmin will always be better because it tells you when there's traffic and automatically takes you away from it and its much easier to search for things, and it can hold music, just an added plus.

If the thing is unusually slow, you might want to try ejecting the NAV disc and checking if it's official media from Zenrin. If it's a copy and the person who made the copy used crappy DVD's with slow read rates to burn the copy onto, it will read particularly slow.

I made a backup copy of my new Nav disc just to have in case something happened to mine, and the copy reads a lot slower than the original.
