difficulty down shifting into 1st
You can get it into first with rev-matching if you really want to, though most of the time, 2nd gear will suffice. There are some occasions when you're rolling to an almost complete stop and then need to go up a hill, for instance, where 1st is more desirable. It can be done - just search for "heel and toe" rev matching and practice the technique.
You could downshift into 1st by blipping the throttle opening the gate to 1st gear. I wouldn't recommend it. Like posted above you should never downshift to 1st unless your at a complete stop. Once you shift out of 1st gear there is a gate that prevents you to do this hence why you cant get it in 1st. Only way is if you blip the throttle and sneak it in. The gate in there for a reason. If you don't like the chatter get another flywheel.
its because i have an aftermarket flywheel and clutch, and if im going anything less than 1800 rpm you can here it vibrate pretty loud. i shift into first from second so that i can keep at a constant 2000rpm and not have to hear that flywheel. but now it wont let me do this
WOW. If your under warranty i'd take it in but don't tell em that you do this. Hopefully if its damaged they can replace unless it obvious you jammed in in there and the shifter or gate it bent etc. If it isn't then I strongly suggest you learn how to properly drive or downshift for that matter or get an automatic next time cause your not doing it right. GL
you dont need to double clutch cars with syncros
you just rev match and it will let you in...but since you can start in 2nd or 3rd, there is no point unless you are racing like someone just said

Unless you're towing a trailer with a Mack truck on it up a steep hill, on a dirt road covered in snow and ice, with worn bald summer tires, in Alaska in the middle of the winter, in -20 degree temps, with a headwind, at night with 3 passengers and a trunk full of luggage in your car... 2nd gear has plenty of power to get up any kind of hill if the car is already moving a bit.

even a 1.6 liter should have enough power under 1500 to get you moving in 2nd gear let alone a 3.5, i accidently started my celica gt-s from 3rd gear up a hill on the test drive w/o stalling it
and the mack truck joke is funny, but u have obviously never tired summer tires in snow..lol

Try revving before shoving it in, thats what i did when ever messing around and throwing it into first trying to get my car to downshift without using the brake.
Also too you are supposed to get it in at a REALLY slow speed, if you want to, like 5mph or less.
