difficulty down shifting into 1st

i know other threads have talked about the difficulty of downshifting or upshifting into 2nd, but i have a problem with downshifting from 2nd into 1st.

ive had my 2004 6mt coupe for about 1.5 months now and before it was perfectly fine with all down and up shifts. but now i can only downshift into 1st if i come to an almost complete stop. this has been happening for the last couple of days when it has been pretty cold (5 degrees C), but it still happends even when the car is warmed up (after 10 mins of driving)

is this normal with the cold? or do i need to get this checked?

your not supposed to downshift into first. ever. if your moving you should be downshifting to second. only go into first if you are at a complete stop.

Never, ever downshift into first gear. It should be used only when starting from a stop. Likewise, you should never put your car into first gear until you are at a dead stop.

Dont downshift to first unless you are stopped. It is normal that you cant downshift to first unless you are almost at a stop. Your 2nd gear is good to keep on rollin when you are driving slow

How would you down shift into 1st exactly? Just curious to know how fast you are going? I mean I shift into first from second pulling up into my garage, but I am barely even moving.

i don't know how you were doing it in the first place. there is a lockout above 5 miles per hour.

its because i have an aftermarket flywheel and clutch, and if im going anything less than 1800 rpm you can here it vibrate pretty loud. i shift into first from second so that i can keep at a constant 2000rpm and not have to hear that flywheel. but now it wont let me do this

Regardless of which flywheel/cluch combo you have, this is a great way to mess up your transmission. I suggest not telling them you do this when you take it in for repair.

yah you might want to delete this thread, if anyone wanted to be an ******* they can easily use this against you when you go in for repair
