problem with SLP and VDC lights; need help

'03 MT coupe with 86,000 miles,

I recently had a "friend" change out the clutch a month ago with an aftermarket clutch. It worked fine for a month. Then the VDC and SLP lights came on while i was driving, the car seemingly seized a little bit then continued to drive ok while the lights stayed on. The next day, the car started fine with only the engine light remaining on. However after driving for a couple minutes the lights would come on again and the engine would stall at slow speeds. I'm hoping this won't happen at high speeds so I'm trying to drive around the neighborood, let it stall once before getting on the freeway.

I don't necessarily trust the competence of my "friend". But I'm pretty ignorant as it comes to mechanica/electrical issues. Could he have knocked something loose while changing the clutch out, or is this most likely coincidental? What would be the problem?

I saw another site saying that it was a potential problem with this year and model? that there was a service warning posted.

Check brake fluid, if it is anywhere below the full mark, add a tad bit. Take a look at your brake pads also
