Talking

Ok, so I did what the psoter above said, filled up the reserve tank, took off the cap let the car idle & rev etc etc. Car was still blowing cold air and trhen the car started to overheat. So for he next hour I spent trying to figure out what happen. Car was overheating fluid was leaking out from some where, My wife was doing her hair when I told her that we had to call AAA due to the car overheating (she got pissed and kicked me out of the bathroom). I went back and finaly added some water directly into the radiator, after afew test runs around the neighbor hood the car stopped overheating (I was able to get a pass from my wife) but still no heat during idle, so I drove the car to my lcoal shop and dropped it off. The car sat for a day ( Thursday) on Friday shop called and said that the heat was blowing fine during idle and that there was no leak. Now I know when I dropped the car off Wedn. night the car was not blowing heat during idle ( the shop even asked did you have the ac on) SO when I picked up the car I let it idle for awhile and sure enough heat was pumping so this works and I will never try working on my G agian.......for awhile.

OBG3506 I'm very sure. They don't have a G, they probably haven't seen a problem like this before. I repeat let the car sit and settle over night. Before you turn it on open up the radiator cap and fill till it's at the brim turn on the car and let it run. Do not close the raidiator. Keep filling it with the 50/50 antifreeze mix till it stays constant at the brim. That's how you'll know if the radiator is completely full. Don't fill the reserve!

Bump.
I have this problem to no heat at idile brought it to a shop they checked it out the next day and sure enough the heat worked Now the problem is back and I'm also hearing a gargarling water sound at cold starts so I'm sure it's a air bubble.
anyways back to ure method am I suppose to let the car sit over night with the radiator cap or do I just open the radiator cap the next morning and keep filling to the brim .
Sory I couldn't really comprehend lol and just wanted to make sure before I make the problem worse

A lot of people in this thread need to bleed their coolant system. If you have unsuccessfully bleed the system, check for coolant leaks/pressure test.

Just like on a brake job when you introduce air into the lines and later go to bleed them no matter how closely you follow the factory procedure you may not always be able to remove all the air. After a night of letting the car sit the air will magically make its way to a bleeder screw or the master cylinder. Same goes for the coolant system. Let the thing sit over night and bleed it. Should solve your problem.

You either don't have enough coolant or you have air in your system.

This happened in my altima. I would be at a red light in the dead of the winter and it would start blowing cold air! I took it to a shop and they said I must have an air pocket. They have this sort of "vacuum" like system that sucked all the coolant out and then they replaced it. Basically like bleeding the lines. It worked perfect after that.

Ran into this issue last week. Never noticed it didn't have heat at idle before (it got cold). Tried messing with it via directions on the first page, but no cigar.

The only method that worked for me:

Rigged up a bathroom curtain rod to hold the gas at roughly 2k rpm for about 10 minutes. Bubbles galore (make sure to twist both rad hoses for a good measure). Also made my own "no-spill" ghetto funnel. Will take her for a quick spin here in a few to make sure everything is working. What a pita this cooling system is on the G...

P.S. Heat appears to be working fine while idling now.

its been over a month now and im still experiencing this no heat at idle issue. tried topping off coolant every morning with car parked at an incline and letting out air from bleeder over a dozen times only to find the coolant level increase in the reserve tank the following morning. no sign of oil or coolant contamination. no wet spots in carpeting. im at a loss. help please!!!

This thread is from 2009, likely most the guys that were posting in here aren't going to reply.

Cooling systems are incredibly simple, so there really isn't much to go wrong. I know its been discussed already, but our motors have a tendency to trap air in the cooling system, specifically in the heater core and lines running to the heater core because it is the highest point in the system. It will appear to bleed properly but still have trapped air. Parking on an incline may not be enough, I typically have to get the front quite high in the air on stands to get it to bleed properly.

Thanks for responnding , didnt wanna start another thread when there are so many on this issue. I use my driveway which leads to a basement garage. The incline is quite steep, well over jack stands max height limit

When you are letting air out of the bleeder, is this with the car running and reaching operating temp? Not trying to insult your intelligence, some people aren't familiar with the bleeding procedure.
