Purchasing a '05-'06 G35 Coupe

Hello, all!

I'm looking to purchase my first G35 Coupe this weekend. I'll have to drive down to GA from Memphis, TN, but I have 4 that are in GA that I'm planning on checking out. 3 are from dealers, which is only a good thing because I'm looking to trade-in my current vehicle a 2004 Honda Civic LX. Tired of listing it on Craigslist, so I'll just take the $4,000 or so that they will give me. I was only asking $5,000 for it anyway.

But anywho, is there anything in particular that I should be looking for when going over everything inside and out? The 3 I'm looking at all have close to the same mileage, around 58-68,000 miles. Which isn't bad considering the dealers only wants $16-$17,800 for them. I'm looking for 6-speed only, can't stand automatics for my own vehicle. Are there any signs to look for with high oil-consumption that I've kind of skimmed about reading through the forum?

I'm coming from another heavy sports touring vehicle, so I have a little experience when it comes to having a boat of a car. 1997 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the car I'm referring to. So how well does the car handle? Im not looking at doing any track days or anything, and I know there's a SLIGHT difference between AWD and RWD, but just curious. Also, the first set of mods that I'm looking at doing almost as soon as I get the car is to throw an exhaust, z-tube w/ filter, and the MREV+ 2 5/16" header. Is this correct? Or is it something different I should be looking for? Also out of curiousity, what sort of 1/4 mile times would that put the car at with a decent driver? mid-high 13s?

I'm sort of burnt out on the whole racing scene, but it would be nice to be in a 13"s running vehicle again. Who knows, I may put a couple of turbos and all the supporting mods on it a year or two from now.

OK here you go. It looks like you did a little searching, that's good. Did you read through this thread? https://g35driver.com/forums/g35-cou...pe-thread.html

It should have all of the answers you seek pertaining to mods. You will probably be in the low to mid 14's with a decent amount of bolt-ons, not in the 13's.

The 05-06 coupe doesn't come with AWD so that's not an option for you to worry about.

The 05-06 6MT are the most common engines to suffer from OC so have an independent mechanic look the car over before you commit to buying anything.

BTW, it's the MREV2 and the 5/16" spacer. Both really good mods on the rev-up engine.

I did run through that thread and would just do simple bolt-ons and call it a day. I'm actually considering buying a member's '07, waiting to hear back on a few things first.

So other than the Oil Consumption issue, there's really not much else to look for?
