need help finding a good deal

hi all,

I've been reading the forums for about a week now since I'm the market for a g35 coupe. I live in the Dallas Forth Worth area and I've already been to a couple local dealers. Basically I'm looking to get about $2200 off MSRP- my parents are willing to pay for the car but they won't buy unless I negociate a good discount. The most I was able to negociate for was $1500 off MSRP. I'm looking to get Leather, Auto with Premium Package. From what I've been reading here it seems several people are getting over $2000 off MSRP. I was wondering if the people who have been getting these deals can share some tips on how to get those great deals. I know several people said that they were able to great discounts at Grubbs Infini but they only offered $500 off and said that these cars were too popular to go any lower.

thnks in advance,
Mike

It's very hard to get a 'good' deal on the coupe. But with the automatic, you should be able to get more than $500 below MSRP. I'd consider any deal better than $1000 below MSRP on a 2004 a good deal right now. If you get $2000+ off of MSRP that is an excellent deal and you might have a future as a negotiator.

Here's how I got my deal:
1) Find all the dealers within your acceptable driving range (or more if you are willing to fly or have it shipped.)

2) Send each of them a Request For Quote specifying exactly the car you want. I mean exactly...find the car on the infiniti inventory list and say "I'd like a quote on the G35 Coupe TB/Willow with Premium Pkg you have in inventory. It is VIN XXXXXXXXXX."

2) Tell them "I will be reviewing my quotes and making a buying decision in the next 72 hours." (or slightly more, but don't bother getting quotes until you are within five days of buying.)

3) Make sure you point out to the 'out of town' dealerships that you are X hours away, but are willing to travel for a good deal. Someone will be willing to pick up a sale that they'd normally have no chance at by giving you a good bid.

4) Follow-up with the low bidder(s) with a phone call to confirm the bid, then get something in writing to hold the vehicle. You can committ to the car (most will require it to hold it), but make sure you can walk away after a visual/test drive.

I always try to honor the low bidder to reward good quotes, but you could always use that quote as leverage with the local dealer. Of course, if the local guy can sell you the car against the competitive bid, why couldn't he just give you that price the first time...

Do not let your trade in or financing get into the process. Those are seperate transactions and should be kept seperate. If asked say "I have a car I could trade, but I plan on selling it myself right now." After the new car price is agreed upon, let the salesman know that you'd like their bid on your trade-in. They might choose not to bid, but I doubt it. Always know what you could get for the car selling it on your own. Don't forget that trade-ins reduce the selling price and reduce taxes.

Have financing arranged by a third party. You can always choose to use it or the dealer's financing. Let them win your business on that if they choose to.

Remember, this is just business. No need to get emotional about the transaction. Don't be pressured into anything, ever. Always be polite, but firm. Never get too attached to any particular car. Always be willing to walk away and live to deal another day. Try to give the salesman a 'win' of some sort. It can actually be enjoyable if you take it as a game and not a high-pressure situation.

Get a job and pay the difference yourself!!!!! You must go to Jesuit or SMU>>>

On a serious note, Contact them by phone or email only. U get a much better deal that way because they know that all you have to do is hang up and call someone else.

Re: need help finding a good deal

I think you can get better deals, I am sure you can easily get a 500+invoice on the 04 coupe since the 05 is coming out, make sure you use this tactic(04 vs 05), just tell the dealer that 05 is coming out and I will instantly loose the money so I wouldnt pay more than "this"(check edmunds and get the invoice)...I am sure he will have to agree if he doesnt, you just walk off...there are tons of dealers around and I am sure you can contact many dealers at the same time and squeeze a good deal by telling all of them that you are in talks with afew dealers in city and even out of the city...

Hope this helps..Just dont nudge from your final offer, if you are even willing to for couple of hunder dollars he will make you buldge even more..

my $0.02

cheers

Re: need help finding a good deal

hey man...good luck getting your new car and dont worry about the h8'ers being negitive. if the market in your area is good, i would try to get 0-750 over dealer invoice right now. the dealer invoice can be found at:

http://www.edmunds.com

just figure out all options on all potential cars you are looking for, add them to the edmunds site, and get a dealer invoice. dont worry if you even get your car for 0 over invoice. dealers make $ off kickbacks from infi and they still make $, even if they sell at dealer invoice.

to ANYONE buying a new car, id suggest reading this. its very long, but it is a fast read and intersting enough to keep you reading. it is car buying from a car salesman http://www.edmunds.com/advice/buying...2/page001.html

good stuff....
