Titan, if you have the Stillen true-dual system/cat-back system the HKS sounds about the same. If the Stillen you're using is the single that attaches to the y-pipe it's made by Magnaflow and almost worthless other than weight reduction from OEM!

Exactly, unless you work in a shop, you'll never really know what sound you like best... That's one of the reasons why I picked HKS...testemonys said it sounded good, but beyond a shadown of a doubt...I knew it LOOKED good. I suppose it's less important to some people... I saw a vendor here on the site selling the cat back kit for 13 hundred and change...great deal!!!

 

I'm not against the idea, I'm just not convinced that I'll go down a costly path that I may regret. Plus how is the sound....better? What are the pro's and con's? I'm a part time wanna be computer dork...just never considered putting it in my car... Convince me!

 

Michael, the HKS dual system is lighter than OEM (weight savings is a plus) the sound you get from this system is better than any of the previous 5 systems I've installed and it's polished stainless from beginning to end so it looks incredable. On my coupe being Twilight Blue the tips match perfect. Other than MotorDynes spacer this is the coolest mod you can get for our G35's....

You have a thread with your CarPC build? It's going to be one of my first mods in my G35 as well. I'll have a 7" VGA touchscreen hooked up to a small-form Shuttle PC that I've had as my designated CarPC for a couple of years. Just never put it in my current vehicle, had it in my 1997 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4. I miss having a CarPC so much!

 

Ok here are my thoughts on this.
First is Bang for the buck, you will not find a unit on the market that can do everything the pc can do for the price, I have about $800 invested in mine and I love it more everyday.

Second you have complete control as far as customizing goes. I have mine set up to look as OEM as possible (no desktop icons or anything...the only thing you'll see is the infinity logo and that's it). The system is set up to turn on and off with the ignition switch. I also have a hidden switch that allows me to override the ignition and prevent it from powering on when I don't want it to. My car was in the shop for 30 minutes once before having any work done because the techs were all in my ride playing with the pc. I can also upgrade any part of my system whenever I feel the need.

Third, Sound, being that its a full blown computer you have tons of options for fine tuning your sound. Not only do you have control of your hardware but you have complete control over the software as well. I know people that have one sound competitions using their carpc and no radio at all.

I am not one of those that puts his car into competition but I do like my system to sound nice and right now its serving my needs beautifully.

I also have internet via my cell phone and listen to all types of internet radio stations and shoutcast without so much as a hiccup not to mention having Google and YouTube at my fingertips.

What you've done is pretty nice bro. I like the idea of not being limited...in terms of hardware and firmware. Honestly, I use my work cell phone only....dont have a personal cell (stop laughing), where the online end of it would be possible. Which probably negates GPS....Satellite Radio....

Questions:

1) Where do you house the PC? Is it a pain to access it when you need to add stuff to it?
2) Cant play CD's? I understand you'd be playing from the HD, so how much work is it to maintain the HD with all your new additions?
3) How do you make the connectivity from the engine performance (ie MPH and RPM) to the computer? Or is there a module that connects to the engine and goes straight to a video input?

don't mean to hijack this thread so I'll answer these and then if you have any other please ask them on my post.

1. Pc is mounted on the back of the rear seat next to my amp. All my upgrades are done
from the comfort of my front seat via usb cd drive or usb memory stick. If I have to take the pc out I unscrew 3 screws and unplug the harness.
2. I have an external usb dvd drive connected so I can play dvd,cd's or add software
3. Engine Management is done via the OBD-II that is connected to the car under the dash and to the pc usb hub. It connects just like if you would take your car to have the code read.
