Will all oil drain from the pan using rhino ramps?

I am about to perform the first oil change for the g and plan to use the rhino ramps. I know I have clearance to get the g on the ramps after I pump the psi to 40 on the front tires. But what I want to know is will all the oil drain from the pan if the g is on the ramps? Since the drain plug is on the side of the pan rather than the back. Thanks for all your replies.

Yes it will nearly all drain. All but an ounce or two. I seem to have about 2 MM clearance with my Pilots at 35 PSI. I strongly recommend installing a Fumoto Valve with a safety spring. Makes your next oil change about a 15 minute job with no mess. Plus, it allows quick (literally 5 minutes) sample drains for oil analysis.

Re: Will all oil drain from the pan using rhino ramps?

I have been thinking about installing the Fumoto valve but that still wouldn't be able to drain all the oil (of course there would be a little left) while on the ramps. I'm comparing the amount of oil drained on a ramp to a level surface. If I drive my car up on the ramps and remove the drain bolt, can I use a floor jack to lower the car back down so it'll be level? Obviously I won't be able to drive the car back down since the car will be deprived of oil. I heard the front jack point is really hard to get to and I'm afraid there won't be much clearance to fit my 3 1/2 ton craftsman jack. What other options do I have in this situation to get most of the oil out after it's on the ramps?

On another note, has anyone been successful at changing out the oil and oil filter from the rectangular cut-out on the plastic below the car? There is definitely enough room to remove the drain bolt but not sure about the oil filter.

That's an interesting idea. But if you can't get the jack under the car when it is not on ramps, how are you going to get the jack out from under the car when you have lowered it?

If the end goal is getting the car level, how about driving the front up on ramps, and then jacking the back up and putting the back on jack stands? Just an idea...

Am I the only one who is concerned enough about the manufacturers warranty to have the dealership change my oil? Geesh, I must be getting old...

Then again, I'm still modding, so I can't be that old.

I love changing the oil on the G, i have no regrets whatsoever, but if i just didnt have to take out all those screws holding the cover...it would be really great. Maybe its time to invest in a power drill?

The oil drains out from the rear of the oil pan. By having the car on ramps, you'll actually get more oil out v. having the car level. It's just like tilting the Matilda Bay party box in high school to get every last drop out of it.

Yes, get a drill With my makita, it only takes like 5 minutes to remove the cover. Your 3 1/2 ton jack might work... Do you have a front lip? I have a 2 1/2 ton jack, and it barely, (and I do mean BARELY), clears the car, when I go to jack up the car. There is like 1mm clearance between the jack and the bottom of the rubber thing under my front lip. I can't even use the regular tube to jack the car up. I have to use my spark plug socket with an extension plugged into it, and jack the car up, until the tube that came with the jack will clear the bumper. PITA yes, but whatever... As long as it works... My car won't clear my ultra ramps, even with the extensions... And its easier to jack the car up anyways, instead of backing the car out, setting up the ramps, and trying to drive up them etc...

That's the way I do it, just reach into the rectangular cut out and twist it off. It's kinda messy, so put a rag up on top of the undertray where the filter is and that will help to catch most of the oil. It's way faster then removing the dang thing.

It drains from the rear of the pan? I thought it drained from the side...which is why I want it to be level. If it drains from the rear then it'll be just fine sitting on the ramps while it's draining.

No, changing your own oil won't void your warranty......but making a mistake will.

It's a relatively easy maintenance item, but mistakes can happen with devastating results. Be sure you have the right equipement, parts, and oil to do the job, and know what you're doing. New VQ's are very expensive.

There have been some 'horror stories' lately about oil changes, so we don't want anything bad to happen again.

Be careful, and if you're in doubt about any part of the procedure, let a pro do it for you and watch him.

Don't worry about the little that's left in the pan. From what I understand, there's a few ounces left in the upper parts of the engine that won't drain out, so you're not getting it all anyway. An ounce or 2 either way won't matter.
