Winter tire size

Hi,

This is my first post here, but I've been lurking around since I bought my 06 DG 6mt Coupe a few months ago. I'm looking at putting winter tires on my OEM 17's and keeping them as a winter set and getting new 19's in the spring. I did my research on the tire I want, Michelin X-Ice Xi2, but have some questions. Does anyone know if putting 225/50/17 on the front and 225/55/17 on the rear will cause problems with the traction control or make the VDC light stay on? I called a couple dealerships but all they would tell me is to stay with the spec. Unfortunately, tirerack only had 235/55/17 for the rear, not 235/50/17. I've seen posts of people who had 225/50 all the way around and the 225/50F/225/55R combo, but they didn't really say how well it worked.

Thanks!

Smaller size winter tires provide better traction in snow than oversize ones. It is entirely different from summer tires. I would stick with the OEM size for the winter tires. Besides, your intended size would really screw up your odometer!

Are you putting the 225/55/17 on only the rear or all around? And are you still using the OEM 17's?

Actually, I just talked to the people at Tirerack (probably something I should've done before ) and they recommended 225/50/17 on the front and 225/55/17 on the rear. We'll see how well it works this winter. Thanks!
